NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Still have a game left to play but with an off week its fair to speculate about looming decisions. Is there any chance Reid and possibly even Kelce retires if they win the SB? I am hoping for no on both parts but Reid turns 66 in March and the speculation was out there last year too. Kelce is 34, turns 35 in October and can go out on top and settle down with Swift although I think she enjoys going to these games too so maybe she plans her tour around the football schedule next season.

The obvious for next season is Toney and MVS will be gone and I am starting to wonder if they look at trading Moore away too as he's been a bust so far and I doubt Mahomes trusts him anymore either. I'm hoping Reid keeps coaching as long as he's got the passion for it and good health as him and Mahomes have a good thing going. I don't even want to think about who the Chiefs would get to replace him but the time is coming soon unfortunately.
Cutting Toney saves nothing. He can be given one more training camp to see if he can be anything or see if someone if willing to give a late round pick for him. Same Skyy more is still going to be with the team as he's on a cheap rookie deal. But if some team wants to toss a mid round pick to KC for him, I wouldn't be mad.

MVS is gone or will need a reworked deal. Leaning toward gone as it save $11 million toward the cap.

Reid and Kelce aren't going anywhere for at least next season or two. Kelce is showing some drop off, but he's still one of the best at what he does. At some point the planning for the next phase needs to be happening though. Is Noah Gray the next reliable TE? Do they try to find more vertical threats and become a down field slinging team again? Who succeeds Reid?

We'll see on Toney I guess, I think he's burned a bridge at this point and will be gone one way or another. He's been unplayable as well with the mistakes and drops so the roster spot could potentially be more valuable than the cap hit. He's had plenty of chances to carve out a role and he's litterally let that slip through his hands. I don't see them cutting Moore but with his cheap deal a trade is possible if there isn't a role for him.

As for TE, Gray has done a nice job when given the targets so would be interesting to see what he would do in an expanded role. I don't think you can replace Kelce with anyone as he's right there with Tony Gonzalez as one of the best TE to ever play the game. Maybe they use a mid round pick if the right TE is there or they maybe wait and see if one becomes available next year in free agency or a trade opportunity. Have to wonder if a TE like Kyle Pitts might benefit from a change of scenery and having an elite QB throwing to him. Whatever they do I'm sure they will have a plan at TE when the time comes and guys want to play with Mahomes so if you have to go outside of the organization to get one there should be guys interested.

I opened this thread for the first time ever ready to talk some 49ers bandwagon smack but after reading 5 pages you guys are remarkably reasonable and kind of the opposite of the 14 years I spent surrounded by Bears fans. Just too much Cyclone class I guess.

Not every Bear fan is like the meathead who got pummeled (deservedly so) at that Jacksonville game. Most of us know we suck.

As for the Chiefs fans I think most of the delusional buffoons are too busy getting hi/wasted in Methdepence to post on here.

The Niners have some advantages and need to leverage them if they want to win. They have a superior edge going against some very questionable tackle play. They also have a major edge with their offensive skill players. With the Chiefs having excellent corners and Gay out, I think the play is to try to "exploit" the middle of the field,

With that said I think the Chiefs are superior just about everywhere else. Better and more experienced QB, coaching staff, interior line (both sides of the ball), and back 7. If the Niners don't play a lot better along their defensive front their are going to get trounced. The Lions oline is legit but I was shocked how easily they dominated the Niner front for the majority of the game. Should they replicate that performance they will be hard-pressed to win the game.

Coming into the POs the Chiefs offense had a lot of issues and I had my doubts. They have looked MUCH MUCH better in the POs despite touch opponents (and playing on the road TWICE).

I think we have Reid for more years than people think. He's 65. Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick coached into their 70s. Plus, why would you ever leave a prime Mahomes?

Next phase? We are in the next phase. From a high flying offense and low tier defense to a ball control, surgical offense and elite defense.

Noah Gray is a good, not great TE2.

I'm guessing this is the new Mahomes/Reid era. Vertical threat plays occasionally but finding those elite down field guys are impossible in relation to where we pick every year in the draft.

I've tried to find participation reports on the last few games and can't find them.
Who are the Chiefs even dressing at WR?

Rice, MVS, Watson, Hardman and Ross? Just playing the first 3 95% of snaps now?

Richie James too but the first 3 seem to be getting the bulk.

Here's for the ravens game

I would love to be able to trust putting Toney out there but you just can’t. Especially after that video. The PR last year was a huge turning point, but I just want a fair catch and that not be the reason we lose the potential for points.

It's going to take every one. Freak injuries happen all the time. Even if KT isn't really in the game plan, he'd better be ready to go if his number is called.

Can you believe that is he longest punt return in SB history?
