NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Chris Jones's market value is going to be close to 30 million. Assuming he wants a long-term deal I think we may have to let him walk. Gotta get Snead resigned though.
I agree Snead is my personal preference over jones as well. His cost has skyrocketed this season as well.

I would like to see a sign and trade of one of them and retain the other, just so they receive value of the departing player. Snead getting the tag wouldn’t surprise me.

Probably need to look at adjusting Thuney’s contract some way as well, to open cap space.

I’m guessing Gay walks and I would like to see them resign Drue Tranquil.

Are Bolton, Creed and Trey all the same draft class with 1 season remaining on current contracts?

No way the Chiefs can resign Jones without gutting the defense with losing the other players. Sign and trade him or move him at the draft. Resign Sneed would be nice to keep Gay, but if we lose him then they have to resign Tranquil, who I think will stay if given a decent offer.
The Chiefs just have to remember the way the Pats did it for years and move on from players like Jones before they become too expensive and cost the team the inability to keep other players around them.

I know SB’s tend to not live up to the hype but this one could be a real dinger like Johnny O used to say. Chiefs D is good and SF’s D was porous until Dan Campbell abandoned the run for some reason. Mahomes only has one reliable receiver in Kelce & a 2nd in Rice who will be under a lot of pressure to produce who has only become a thing in the last month. SF has a stable of threats all over the field that Purdy can exploit. I like both teams so it’s a win/win for me. I think SF’s D is the weak link and combined with the Andy-Mahomes-Kelce trifecta of Big Game experience. I’m calling Chiefs 27-24. And it will be renamed Andy Reid International when they depart.

All those guys are unrestricted FA's at the start of the league year in March. Decisions are going to have to be made quickly after the SB. Jones is probably done, as it would hamstring the team to keep him. Sneed's looking at $17million/yr plus signing bonus. Drue should be easier to sign. he'll get a good pay bump, but it won't be top tier money. Gay I think might want too much. He'll get a good bump if the Chiefs keep him, but I think he'll jump elsewhere, likely Washington who doesn't have much for LBs and have plenty of cap space.

Also huge is Gay being healthy. No injury designation on Friday. So looks to be fully recovered. Apparently there is still a chance Thuney could play but with the way Allegretti played I don't think having a 70% Thuney with a pec injury is going to be better than Allegretti if he plays as well as he did against the Ravens.

Just saw McKinnon is coming off IR and will be available for the SB. That could be huge.
Designated to return. That opens his 21 day window to come off or IR. It is a positive sign for sure, but it's the move they had to make if they want him to play in the SB. Technically it's the same as Skyy Moore whose window opened on Jan 17th. They have to make a final decision on Moore by this Wednesday. There's also Prince Tega Wanogho as well, but they have until either Sat or Sun for him, depending on when final rosters are due.

Lets get this guy a TD in the superbowl. He deserves one for his selfless slide at the end of last years game.
I love McKinnon and think he is a key piece in the offense, but after being out so long, is he going to be super rusty and not have much of an impact?

A sign and trade is probably unlikely as he's an unrestricted free agent. Not sure what all the rules are on the franchise tags as far as trades go but the biggest issue is the Chiefs won't have the cap space to tag him let alone try to sign him without a tag designation either. Unless some team has some players the Chiefs are willing to take on their contracts no team is going to just pony up a draft pick for him if they can sign him outright in free agency.

I hate that the Chiefs will lose him but he's probably destined to sign with the highest bidder. Not sure there are a lot of playoff teams that will have the cap space to sign him either so he'll probably have to be content going to a bad team if he wants the most money.

He had surgery back on Jan 4th that has a 6-8 week recovery time. Odds of him being in 100% game shape are probably low, but we'll see.

Yeah I would guess some team like the Bears signs him. I think some other teams with a lot of cap space are Texans, Lions actually, Titans Commanders.

He would be a beast for the Lions with what they already have on defense. For all of these guys, it comes down to do they want to continue to win or do they want the money.

Spotrac has the information some of you are looking for.

Market Valuations:
Chris Jones $28.5M
L'Jarius Sneed $16.3M
Mike Danna $8.7M
Willie Gay $7.1M
Drue Tranquill $7.0M
Jerick McKinnon $2.3M
Clyde Edwards-Helaire $1.7M

List also includes Travis Kelce and Justin Reid. I wonder if that is telling us to conisder extending Reid, which I wouldn't be against, at his market valuation of $7.7M.

I could see Chris Jones taking another one year deal with the Chiefs next season if we are going for the three-peat. That's legacy building stuff right there.

I would like to agree with you, and hope it happens, but taking another one-year deal pushes Jones to the magic age of 30, which he will hit this year. Clubs do not want to invest huge dollars into players 30 and over at his position.
