Uhhh.... no. Mahomes is a finished product. He may adjust his game as he ages or if he gets injured, etc, but in terms of development, yeah, he's done and developed.
I am a huge Mahomes fan, and if he were a finished product, every team would take him. However, he would be the first to admit there are constantly things he needs to keep working on and studying. I believe it was Ray Kroc that said, "As long as you're green you're growing, as soon as you're ripe you start to rot.” The key to development in studying film is that defenses will constantly be trying to adjust and he has to adjust to that.

Respectfully, I think you’re projecting Purdy’s NFL play to his time at ISU.

He always had elite “feel”, pocket awareness, and ability to move and keep the play alive. His footwork was not anywhere close to what he’s doing now w/ SF.

He routinely threw off his back foot/rolled into contact.

His numbers early were also buoyed by a lot of chuck and pray w/ Butler. Many of those throws that went big were underthrown.

He also had (by nature of the team and his disposition) to put his head down and have the real possibility of a decent outing go to bad, worse, horrible trying to do too much.

Rocco seems to be on the current trajectory of Brock in NFL. If he’ll get to Purdy/NFL #s remains to be seen. But Rocco is and will continue to put up Brock NCAA numbers/results.

And may come out with a more favorable draft comp if he keeps it up. Brock seemed destined for big things after Soph year and then teams started honing in on him.
That may be the best I have heard it stated. His ability, while not really a "running QB" to use his legs and the pump fake to keep drives alive with a key first down pick-up were similar to what we see with Mahomes (and maybe the only thing I would compare them on!). He threw some balls up for grabs that you would say OH NO!, and then Butler would come down with them.

I'm feeling pretty good early in the process. I just read that NC State has 12 kids that have announced intention to enter the portal

Agreed. I'd label my current emotional state as "cautiously optimistic."

I've gone on record a few times here stating that this football offseason will be the best litmus test of our ability to compete to date, and if things hold serve I'm very pleasantly surprised.

Tremendous job, @brentblum

The benefit Rocco has is he doesnt need to chase $$$ in college, because the kid has a really good shot to play at the next level. Has the necessary skills, pedigree, etc. Also, his dad is a HUGE CMC fan/advocate. Not worried about him at all
We also have a highly ranked backup in Kohl. I think Rocco wants to be here, and we want him. But there’s some depth behind him if he moves on

This may be me drinking the Kool-Aid here too much, and if so, im sure you all will let me know, but boy it feels like this program took a massive next step, and moved itself up a tier, ESPECIALLY, if we can keep everyone here and healthy.

Again, drinking kool aid here, but i am more excited for this bowl game than ive been in a while just to be able to watch this team play again, and im just as excited for the 24 season. LFG!

I don’t doubt teams are inquiring about Rocco, I highly doubt it is in the excess of 7 figures.
Why would you doubt teams are willing to pay well in excess of $1,000,000 for him? He was just awarded Big 12 offensive freshman of the year. Matt Rhule just said and I quote: "Make no mistake, a good QB in the portal costs $1-2 million." I think he likely takes a major jump from freshman to sophomore as well. I think some fans may be undervaluing Rocco.

In the corporate world, there’s a lot of big companies that have crazy salaries. Sometimes they aren’t the best place to work.

Consistency, vision and confidence your coach isn’t going to get canned if you lose 3-4 games matters to some ppl.

True, and while I dont believe he will move on, having Kohl will be nice. Hopefully the game slows down for him more in year 2
Both will stay for at least next season, after that all bets are off. If Rocco plays at a high level he may want to chase the money, and if he stays, no way Kohl sticks around and sits the bench for another couple of years.

Mahomes has reached a level that few QB ever get too, players like Elway, Manning, Brady and others at the top of their game. Within a second Mahomes can read the defense and know where to throw the ball too, and like Brady has the sense of when the pocket is starting to collapse and slide to one side or the another to avoid the rush. He still makes mistakes, but when he does like in the Denver games, he instantly realized he should have put more air under the ball, and he rarely repeats the mistake. When he is finished if he can stay healthy, he will go down as one of the top two or three QB's ever to play the sport.
I largely agree with you. The only thing that keeps him out of the potential 2-3 for me is ....

I need him to dominate without Andy Reid. He's great either way. But if he's going up on Mt. Rushmore... than I need to see him without one of the all time great QB coaches and play callers.

For me, that's what made Brady special. A, that I had a chance of beating him in a foot race and B, he was playing for a defensive coach who didn't always give me great weapons around him and did it at two locations

Thats the one thing I need to see from Mahomes to personally put him on the mountain top with Brady

Didn’t recognize it at the time, but Purdy, Hall, Rose, somewhat fell victim to Fred’s last team/Prohms first.

All the fan she hopes/expectations. The thing that’s encouraging, which we see now with bball, and now football, a program has actually been built.

It’s not strung together with 3-4 AA players, trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

6-6/7-5 realistically seems it’s the floor/baseline expectation. Throughout ISU history 7-5 is a really REALLY good season.

He wanted to build it and he’s doing it.

There is a lot of similarity here. Managing tech talent isn't dissimilar to this portal stuff. They aren't commanding $1 Million dollar salaries but rockstars can go get obscene salaries from the big boys. I have to figure I am going to lose a few each year to that and then I go poach someone down scale from us. But 80% of the team is committed and predictable and here because they want to be at this point in their career. We advertise that and we advertise, hey if you want to come in and make yourself a rockstar go for it, we think you can do that here.

Is there any reason that Rhule might be rounding up?

(Yes. There is.)
