I'm not wrong. I was asked what I needed to see more to be sold on Becht. I answered the question. You can disagree. If you think he is a finished product and sold on him cool, but I stated the obvious. If you don't think he or even most young qbs have difficulty after their first read is taken away, then you don't watch the games closely. I never bashed the kid just stated I'm not sold completely on him being the future at the QB position. History as an ISU football fan alone says otherwise. There were high for hopes for Joel Lanning going into the next season....There were high hopes for Jacob Park going into his second season, Kyle Kempt then Brock came along and broke that mold. Then, this year with Dekkers. So I'm sorry I'm not sold. I hope he is the guy, gets better every year, is a first rounder, and leads us to a Big 12 championship win!
Who said he was s finished product? Patrick Mahones isn't a finished product. You always keep learning and growing. The big 12 just named him freshman of the year for offense.

I'm not sure what you've been watching.

He's successfully changed the play at the line of scrimmage. He's successfully gotten through progressions and hit hot reads when blitzes are coming. Does he need work in all of those areas? Yes! But good grief, for a freshman he showed poise and command of the offense. Of his (few) picks, only 2 stand out as truly bad plays (long throws that were late giving the DB time to jump the route). He clearly excels at buying time and avoiding sacks. And the limited runs/scrambles have been sufficient.

Opposing coaches voted him as offensive freshman of the year.

If your not sure if he's the future of the offense, I'm not sure what would have you convinced.
Why is ONLY one guy the future of the offense? Just like Purdy and Hall were 1A & 1B, I am hoping that Rocco and Abu III are 1A & 1B.

My hope is both guys become all Big12 1st or 2nd team players next season.

I said in my post I stated what would have me convinced.

A check with me play call is not reading a defense or changing a play at the LS, but college qbs really don't do that anymore, so that was never anything I mentioned. If that hot read that he is coached to look for vs said look isn't there or where the play is designed to go he has struggles again most freshman do. I need to see progression in those areas to say he is the future at QB. ISU history for 2nd year starters tells me I need to wait and see as well. I'm excited the coaches voted him as newcomer of the year. Again, I'm not saying anything negative. We have had plenty of kids get awards that weren't or didn't become the future of the program, so that means nothing other than he did good THIS YEAR. Which is awesome and well deserved by him especially considering the circumstances by which he ended up starting.

I would love that as well. When I say future I mean main focal point. If I'm a defensive coordinator who do I want to stop. I think Brock initially was that person then it shifted to Breece. Once defenses learned to just blitz us and play tight man coverage. More OC fault in being predictable but nevertheless Breece was and should have been what was needed in order for us to be successful. How many of Brock's multiple int games we won in the past because of good defense and Breece? All I'm saying is I can clearly see that for Sama more than any of the past RBs since Breece. I want to see more from Rocco before I anoint him.

and? I'm so happy for Rocco and our team! It's something to build on for sure and well deserved, but the award doesn't change the fact that I want to see more before I anoint him.

great2b is ZRF is Whoisthis/swarthmore/FinalFourcy.

Or they're related.

Change my mind.
Yep. And I would guess the same person or people is the same one behind some of the rando’s from other schools drop in with weird or horrible takes.

It seems obvious to me that Rocco is a huge step up from a leadership perspective compared to last year.. and intangibles matter more than physical talent for QBs.

He also can solidly do the things that he is asked to do in the offense.

I think he COULD end up being a really great player for ISU, but I see him as more of a Brett Meyer or Austen Arnaud type rather than a Purdy or Wallace type. He doesn’t seem to have as much accuracy/zip as those guys on the intermediate and long routes. That’s not to say he can’t improve or he can’t be a great player.. he just doesn’t seem to have the skill set those other guys have when it comes to throwing the ball.

I don’t really see Rocco as a future NFL type quarterback, but I am excited to watch him grow.

My take is that he's very much a Purdy-lite type player at the moment. And that he could (and probably will) grow into a college-level Brock Purdy type QB. I actually see better decision making than BP had at this point in his career. Rocco won't have the crazy pump fake scramble plays that Purdy had, but he also won't have those super head-scratching turnovers either.

I agree that his ceiling for the NFL draft is similar to Purdy as well. In other words, it'll be very impressive if he can get a chance.

It's wild to say, but I feel as good about the QB spot as I ever have. With Purdy there were injury concerns with how he played. Rocco may not have the top end that BP had, but he was extremely consistently good and that can win you a whole bunch of games.

Side note: the team as a whole might be better for Rocco and Nate Scheelhaase might be the biggest key to success for Rocco
