Same. Never even heard of someone charging an hourly rate.
It’s a thing that happens, but usually only when you have a longstanding relationship with the customer and don’t screw them over, but you almost always can always request a hard quote.

I wouldn't ever pay a service tech by the hour so no I would have no problem with it.
So has PFG stock the last month or so. Maybe it’s a good combinationThis thread sucks now.
Lately my remodel stuff has been difficult to get bids, I do what I can and deal with 4-5 crews at times and it’s been 50-50 lately. New construction should be easier but I don’t need any of that now.I've literally never received a quote that way. I always receive a total cost. I would contact someone else if I ever received that type of quote.
The more I think about it, I think Iowas was to make you pay dues even if you didn’t join.It probably makes sense if you are going to benefit from it. I believe Wisconsin law is otherwise (or at least don't have to pay dues) but not a union expert.

I know some of the wife’s co-workers didn’t join because they didn’t like the politics of the union. They wanted to just join the local one but that is not an option.
Since you brought up teaching kids, aren't the ones doing that hard workers and underpaid? All this thread has taught me is people have no issues with just doing an adequate job. Don’t work hard, don’t work too slowly. Just work leisurely and you’ll be successful.
I guess I was raised differently. You will get paid what you deserve. If you want to just work half heartedly, that’s fine. But your career growth will be limited. If you work hard and work efficiently, you’ll ultimately be rewarded for it.
I sure hope we are teaching kids while they study/learn material that they can just study to get by. Don’t try to fully understand the material; just learn enough to get good enough grades
Having quite a few relatives that are teachers (including my wife!), I can say they think they are putting in more work than they actually are. Most teachers in my area make over $60K, and when you factor all the time off they receive, I wouldn’t say they are underpaid.Since you brought up teaching kids, aren't the ones doing that hard workers and underpaid?
$60k starting?Having quite a few relatives that are teachers (including my wife!), I can say they think they are putting in more work than they actually are. Most teachers in my area make over $60K, and when you factor all the time off they receive, I wouldn’t say they are underpaid.
Just got kicked out while posting, see if this works now. I was thinking 5-7 years but as I get older I’m realizing what I think is 5 turns out to be 10 too many times. So I can’t remember. I was thinking it was around the same time as WI was doing their governor recalls. How long ago was this? That is.....very surprising given the makeup of Iowa's legislature.
$45K for no experience, and only a bachelor’s degree. A little over $52K for no experience + masters. $60k masters with 4 years (tenure). And once you are tenured, they have far more protections.$60k starting?
If there is somebody on this board that works in a non-union construction trade, I would love to know what your reasoning for not going union would be. Unless you are an owner/sole proprietor, The pros significantly outweigh the cons in my opinion. and like I’ve said, I’ve been on both sides of it
That’s like 12 years in per my wife’s schedule. Starting with all the state things and everything is around 40 or so at hers.$60k starting?

That’s low. I know Minnesota is much higher than Iowa also. Growing up less than 2 miles from there we got a local paper. What they got first year was what my wife received 7 years in at a similar sized school.Friend with a masters in AR is on year 13....$50k.
