Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Who just made you Bob Barker?

:D
And I seriously have empathy for WSU and OR State. What they must be going through. Well, we've been there.

But we came out on the other side. I'm not sure if that will happen with them.
Actually, they're playing the role of Johnny Price, the originator of the phrase "come on down, you're the next contestant on the price is right," OR Rod Roddy, Johnny's successor, who is the actual voice you probably hear in your head when you hear the phrase mentioned.

But, someone could be made Bob Barker too.

Again, don't ignore a separate basketball contract. Example: If the P2 has half the football content and the rest is split up by everyone else, we see what we're seeing. BUT, now imagine the P1 basketball conference having half the basketball content (just for arguments sake), the combined value of that conference with their more miniscule football value jumps significantly. I'm sure someone can put real numbers to this hypothetical, but I'm pretty sure that's BY's strategy to even the overall contract values of the P3.
Agree. BY evidently has visions of marketing the conference's current basketball success, while expanding it with other successful basketball brands (UConn, Gonzaga) to create a value that can be used in negotiating basketball programing with the networks and close the gap between the Big 12 and the SEC/Big 10. Further, BY envisions marketing this to Euro players as an alternative to playing in Europe. His interest in AZ fits into this basketball vision.

Or, as stated above, could there be some antitrust movement on the media's side by creating false value during the P12 contract negotiations? Interesting to say the least.
I see what you’re saying and I’ve seen this floating around Twitter too.

If antitrust legislation came into play, I’d imagine the networks could argue that the schools are more valuable in the B10/B12 than the P12. They receive more compelling matchups, better time slots, more viewers from central and eastern time zones, more passionate opposing fan bases, etc.

Can someone explain the Utah hate to me? Is it because they dropped 68 on us that one time? I don’t really get it otherwise. I’d much rather have them over BYU

I don't think there is real hate, but their fans are/were really arrogant on the internet. I don't do twitter so they don't bother me. For what it is worth BYU fans seem about even split about wanting them in the B12, that's just my opinion from lurking on cougar board. Now that the Pac is crumbling they don't seem near as cocky.

I’ve been to Duck games (ISU buddy moved there after graduation) and I don’t think they’d be a good long term fit. Buddy and I would go see a game in Autzen and wear ISU colors and receive derision and aggression. Ok, sure, I’m not wearing green, but do you have to be angry about it to the point that you call us out and make it an issue?? It happened on several occasions. We’re like WTF, we just like the game day experience and we like our team so how hard it is to deal w/ two numb nuts spending money in your stadium? I can’t imagine calling out a fan (from another conference) in Trice. I would be like “dude, thanks for coming to see our badass tailgate experience - come again w/ more friends”.

So, long story short, Oregon (fans, administration, cheerleaders, etc) would always feel they deserved the Big10 and would bring a lot of distain - they’d always be looking to bolt - like Texas.
That's really weird. I go to a lot of away games, even some random non-ISU ones, wearing ISU gear and have always been treated fine.
If say, a Pitt fan showed up to watch ISU play KState, I'd offer them a brat and a beer.

I remember watching that game. I'm not "hating" Utah, I'm fearing Utah. They ran all around and over us.

Most has to do with their twitter fans. They have been ripping the big 12 and just being asses. I even saw one fan today say they should turn down the big 12 since they think the big ten would pick them up.

I would enjoy watching that mistake.

I've been a Ducks fan way before they were cool... almost as long as being an ISU fan. I have been to a game as well wearing ISU gear and didn't experience or see anything like that even hanging out with their fans pregame in their packed indoor workout facility. Have friends that live in Oregon that go to games quite often too. Lets face it that each fan base has the problem children that cause issues and give over the top smack (See iowa and fuskers). I will also say that their tailgating is boring compared to ISU from what I saw. Lets face it, all of the PAC teams would rather be in the BIG due to media propaganda and $$$, ISU would rather be in the BIG too but that not happening either. We'll be dealing with some level of arrogance regardless of who we bring in.

The extended analogy didn’t land because that’s not what I said, and not really close to it honestly. Utah was above BYU in the Pac when BYU was independent. Utah doesn’t want to be at the same level as them, in the same conference. So they’re denigrating the Big 12. If we were in a similar position, where we’d fallen into being in a superior conference to Iowa for a decade, we also would not want to feel like we were dropping back to their level by joining their league.

Utah is a good brand and school in a growing state; I’m excited for some reasons to visit SLC and catch a Cyclones game there every now and then.

Utah has been growing but water issues could easily hinder future growth.

This is almost a back-door suggestion to screw the B12. Where’s the TV money coming from for SMU? Boise State? Memphis? I’m surprised he didn’t include “great brands” like Tulane and South Dakota State on his B12 map.

It's one more way he can **** on the Big12 - "look at all these other garbage G5 schools - they are right on the same level as all the other Big12 schools"

Consultants just tell you what you already know, and what you want to hear. It's obvious he was doing exactly that with the PAC12. "you're so great! such academics! better than truck stop!"
