I heard that Pollard is doing the honorable thing and will grant those guys wanting to transfer full releases. He's a bigger man than I. I would condition the release on no Auburn or other Big 12 schools. However, he also implored the team to not make any decisions until a new coach was hired.

If that is true I applaud JP for doing that. Let the players make whatever decision is best for them since this entire situation is not of their doing. I believe the great majority of the guys that GC recruited will stay. And I will be their biggest fan!!!

The thing that will keep Gill away will be not wanting to coach against Nebraska. I would love to get him but from what I've heard he still loves the Big Red.

Ah, the fired brigade.

Other than Lane Kiffin (hired at Tennessee) and Bill Snyder (hired at K-State) all of those are pretty much "retired".

I don't think any of them would be around for a long haul.

I have to think that JP will dig up some old Big 10/Wisconsin ties that we haven't discussed here yet.

I'm kind of surprised no one has jumped on this yet. I really hope he doesn't do this because I can't seem to think of anyone out of Wisconsin's staff right now, or under Alvarez, that would be a good fit.

And Dan Patrick just made fun of Chizik...but got three of his wins wrong...

I'm kind of surprised no one has jumped on this yet. I really hope he doesn't do this because I can't seem to think of anyone out of Wisconsin's staff right now, or under Alvarez, that would be a good fit.

Paul Chryst, the Wisky OC, was mentioned last time, but I think some shine has worn off of him in the last 2 years.

Nebraska has had opportunities to hire him and havent done it. I would think he wouldnt mind sticking it to them to be honest. Of course he loves the place, but they decided that Bo Pelini would be a better option.

Even if he plays Marty ball and dominates the regular season and flops in the bowl games I will be happy. How about dad as a coordinator? My favorite is when you google news his name the first things you see are

"Shottenheimer used creative play calling".

But, just thinking outside the box...

Jay Norvell was at Wisconsin for awhile after he was at ISU. I'm surpirsed his name hasn't come up more.

McCarney was a Hawk through and through before he came to Ames. How did that turn out every September? Pretty well for us.

Oh, I like the idea. Having someone with that kind of background and NFL experience certainly wouldn't hurt at all.

And if the guy was here for a few years and left - as long as he won - it wouldn't bother me.

Unlike our former coach who got busy with us, made himself feel good and then hopped off before we had any chance to enjoy it.

Why isn't Ty Willingham being considered or talked about? He was in a bad situation in Washington, but look at what he did before that. Notre Dame and Stanford. He did very well at each school and Charlie Weis's early success was due to his recruits. Besides some of the other head coaches some people are suggesting (Phil Fulmer, Tommy Bowden ect.) Willingham would actually come to ISU and be loyal to the fans and the university, while taking us to new hights.

Also, what if Paleni goes downhill (remember he is a good coordinater like Chizik was) and we hire Gill, then Paleni gets canned. Why wouldn't Gill bolt to his almamater?

21-15 at Notre Dame

Pretty sucky when you consider these schools should be easy to recruit to.

He was 44-36 at Stanford which isn't too bad but that was before USC came along and took over the Pac10.

Larry Coker - He may not have founded "Thug U," but he certainly was the epitome of it. The guy won, but the last thing we need is Iowa fans turning the arrest thing right back on us.
Tommy Bowden - like the idea - the guy has an overall 60% winning percentage as well as several seasons of 8 wins or more. Was fired from Clemson because the fans wanted conference championships and perfect seasons. At this point in my life I'd settle for 8 and 9 wins.
Terry Bowden - as far as I can remember, as him being a commentator for ABC, the guy has never had anything nice to say about ISU. I don't want that kind of guy representing my university.
Lloyd Carr - See Tommy Bowden above. Doubt he even considers coming here.
Bill Snyder - attached to K-State, wouldn't want him anyway.
Dennis Francionie - anyone remember how he drove aTm into the ground? I don't want him anywhere near ISU's program.
Lan Kiffin - hired at Tennessee
Ty Willingham - marginal coach at Stanford, took a somewhat decent Notre Dame program and drove it straight into a telephone pole, took a clunker of a Washington program and drove it straight into a telephone poll. Leave him in the junkyard.
Phil Fulmer - I don't know whether he's on the level of Tommy Bowden and Lloyd Carr, or whether the guy's actually begun to flame out. Not sure how I feel about him.

I don't know who the "right" guy is and won't pretend to. There are a few names I like and some I think would be horrid ideas. But I thought Gene would be great for us - and look how that turned out.

I think getting hung up on one guy (many seem completely stuck on Turner) is a really bad idea. Setting yourself up for a major letdown should Gill not come here or not even be a candidate.

22, this is great. I think exactly the same thing. At this point, I will merely accept JP's decision and hope like heck that we finally have a competent coach.

No way that happens. Pollard has his finger on the pulse of the fans, and he would know how unpopular this would be.
