All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

We’ve been called for it before. In my eyes, it’s a stupid rule.
It's very far from stupid. The offense is penalized for just moving while the defense is penalized only if they cross the neutral zone at the snap or they draw movement on the O. The offense goes on the snap count so they shouldn't allow the D to imitate that trying to get an offensive player to flinch.

I'm pretty sure ISU has had games in the past where the D was doing this and a very disciplined ISU offense ended up getting a bunch of false start penalties because the crew wasn't calling it. It can be extremely disruptive.

WSU in the Alamo bowl is one I can think of. Rumors are with less fans, the refs are able to hear this better and why it gets called more.

Kenneth Murray from OU got called for this all the time. At least once every couple of games.
I always hated silent counts. My HS coach gave our QB and one receiver a specific audible. If the WR saw tight press coverage he would start pounding his inside thigh pad, the qb would tap the center in a specific spot and when he pressed up for the snap the center just snapped it. The WR was great at releasing and would generally get a Long play. Nothing like being a LT and thinking the snap is on 2 or 3 and being relaxed because set hasn’t even been called and having a DT blast you over. Man I hated that audible.

I played a lot of TE and some RT, and we had a coach my Freshman year who implemented 2 different silent counts. I hated these because on one of them, I was responsible for the audible and there were multiple times I messed up. One of the times I did mess up, was when I blew out my knee because I got blown up for missing the audible.

I just feel like you should be able to understand your own cadence and be able to distinguish between your own and some opposing defensive lineman.

Hard to tell one hand clap from your right from another. Besides, if going hard count you are counting up to 6-8 at times and that can mess up your count if the right NG is doing it and you are the left tackle. Those ear holes don’t give you direction real well.
