Ending Iowa's Dominance

First of all I would not call the last decade dominance. The last two years came down to who could make plays in the 4th quarter. The real secret to changing this thing is to get better. ISU has better recruiting in the last couple years, so they are on their way from that aspect.

OL is the biggest issue, for the third year in a row. Coaches need to make fixing that a top priority for 2019. Hire an OC, and if needed hire a OL coach with more experience.

It's virtually a 50/50 split since breaking the Iowa 15 year streak. ISU is 10-11 over the past 21 years in the series. But, ISU has only won 5 of the past 16 CyHawk games. No one 20 or under will think of this as an even series.

ISU has built up their facilities, has built up the fan base, has built up their enrollment. They have the ingredients for a step up, but there is still a hill to climb. ISU is more relevant in the state than in the past, but not winning recruiting battles with Iowa now. That can change. Iowa has more name recognition outside of the state. With Iowa in the Big Ten and ISU in the Big 12, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I feel like the difference in conference between the Big Ten and Big 12 is really underrated factor. Without even considering the revenue factor (which is huge) being in the Big Ten is such a huge built in bonus in the post realignment world. Iowa gets to play in a conference with an enormous regional media footprint and has Border rivalries all over the place. Sometimes it feels like we are on an island in the B12.

While the recent history of the cyhawk game has been pretty one sided in favor of Iowa its the recruiting aspect that's more disappointing and arguably more important. The current administration has done a great job in generating excitement and garnering support from inside the fanbase. But in terms of growth I'm not so sure. If we want to see real growth and see ISU get on equal or better footing than Iowa long term we are going to have to start holding our own in terms of recruiting in state kids. We need to get to a point where its not a forgone conclusion the best kids in the state are either going to a big time out of state program or Iowa. We need to be real players there on a regular basis.

You have it backwards. We're not going to start getting the in state studs until we are on equal footing with Iowa, which means winning 6-9 games every year for 10 years. That might be a little exaggerated, but the perception and reality in state, while trending in a positive direction, is that Iowa is a superior program to Iowa State.

As long as we keep recruiting like we have since Campbell started, we will have a chance. There are plenty of good players in the Midwest. I don't give a **** if they're from Iowa or South Dakota or Ohio.

One thing that's a little disconcerting to me is how we, along with a lot of other schools, offered Foster (a 4* kid I believe), and Iowa didn't.

Obviously when someone is a 4*, it's probably not a bad idea to offer him, but what did Iowa's coaches see on his film that we didn't? That's a little worrisome to me.

Foster is a RS Sophomore. He needs more development. But he is still young.

I guess I look at dominance differently. Dominance to me is what the Huskers or Iowa used to do to us. Not only winning, but destroying any hope of ISU winning in the games. Either way, in order to beat Iowa, ISU simply needs to get better and deeper.

Losing Lazard was MUCH bigger than most folks understood. 3rd and 5 was a gimme. Opened the field for other RB and receivers.

In that situation, Chace Allen has to be the go to guy. He has the size and hands to do this.

What’s your point? Doesn’t make them better players; they just fit the NoFlagLeague’s syle of play. There have been plenty of great college players who never excelled at the professional level.

I think people are ignoring that it was two pretty good teams in a real physical game yesterday.

ISU obviously needs to figure more out on offense but we'll find more out over the next few weeks. It's a bit of that loser mentality for people to think that because there's ranked teams on the schedule that ISU can't win.

Kirk will be around as long as he wants. I don't think he'll have the juice to get his son hired though, especially it the offense oscillates between mediocre to acceptable
