Ending Iowa's Dominance

Title of this post got me thinking... reason for iowa success really is coaching longevity..

They don’t lose coaches much..it’s really biggest factor in maintaining success imo.

We lose our OC and OL coach and our best recruiter in Ayeni...we then see cmc gets $1 mil extra for asst pool and we don’t replace OC...

I wonder how many PantherHoks will be wearing hok clothing this weekend and rooting for hoks even though they graduated from UNI? Trent Condon for sure comes to mind. He's a radio guy on the Des Moines sport station who just gushes with glee anytime he can talk about the hoks.

So in your world, no one is a Cubs fan because there is no Cubs U to have attended. And anyone who doesn't do a 4 year school.......well................

Only former/current players and employees of the cubs can be cubs fans.

Just pointing out there are plenty of Iowa kids on the roster. I’m sure the game has just as much meaning for the ISU players as the Iowa players. To state otherwise is just an excuse.

Not directed at you, just a general observation

It means more to the players the longer they have been there. I transferred my senior year, my new schools big rival, I honestly didn't give a rip about. I got to play my old team and that one is the one i was hyped for.

Yeah, well I remember making the longevity argument when Messingham was promoted to OC. Ability is key, and ability with longevity. I think Iowa has done a fantastic job of taking competence and ability and turning it into longevity with Ferentz. They learned from Dr. Tom.

The 2000 team is generally considered the best Cyclone team in recent history. That team went 9-3 with a large number of Iowans being major contributors to that squad

Sage Rosenfels
JJ Moses
Lane Danielsen
Joe Woodley
Ryan Sloth
Mike Banks
Ryan Harklau
Ben Bruns
George Cunningham
Corey Hannen
Zach Butler
Marcel Howard
Andy Stensrud
Chris Anthony
Jordan Carstens
Kevin DeRonde
Dustin Avey

I'm sure I left a player or two off the list.

Josh Knipfel played great Saturday and is by far the best o-lineman.

Ohio State missed the playoffs last year for 1 reason only and it wasn't losing to Oklahoma.

Iowa has a lot of very good D-lineman but I don't know why they play #90.

The Offensive Line has to get better CMC need to play two TE's and protect the tackles. Single back 2 WR offense it's the only hope. If he doesn't do this we are about to get to know our 4th and 5th string Qb's.

Disagree. The game is a big deal for us but a WAY bigger deal for the Hoks. Both players and fans. Isn't it strange that the Hok fans have a game this week against a totally different opponent, yet are still here today (Thursday before their next game) on CF talking about last week's game? Shouldn't they be back in their own pigsty, or at the very least over at the Panther forums? That tells you all you need to know.

Like I have said for the past 41 years, this is the BIGGEST GAME OF THE SEASON FOR THE HOKS......Always has been and always will be.....The ChokeEye fanbase is in absolute complete denial of this fact, but if you believe them...well its just another game...I have some Swamp Land to sell you...at exorbitant prices of course ...lol....

I've seen some reaches on this site before but this might top them all

How can kids be fans? They didn't go there??? You ID check when people buy tickets?? You don't have a degree and not attending then no dice. I personally know a number of Clone fans that never went to school there. Should I tell them they aren't really fans???

I don't no. I never said anything about having to go to school to be a fan of them either

I really don't GAF if Iowa recruits more Iowa kids to their Football team. Everyone makes ****** decisions and if they want to be Hoks, let them be Hoks. Just recruit best talent available. It has worked for us in basketball and starting to get better in football. If we recruited the same athletes Iowa has, we wouldn't be competitive in the Big12. Their personnel is perfect for the B1G, but when playing outside of the conference they get Tennesseed/Stanforded.

If an Iowa kid like Weiskamp (sp?) is more interested in Franball than a real basketball program and legitimate coach that's sign enough for me that it's stupid to waste more than a few minutes once you know the kid is a big Hawkeye fan. Iowa fans probably had some similar feelings about Lazard and prior to last year we didn't have much big time success to point to on the football field.

ISU filling up an expanded Jack Trice so consistently tells me the whole "home grown" thing will probably even out about 10-15 years from now, if not tip to ISU's favor but you are right that it doesn't matter. Prohm and Fred have outrecruited Iowa by light years without Iowa kids, with this latest class CMC has closed the gap with mostly kids from out of state. What matters is the net level of talent and making sure they are true Cyclones the minute they get here.
