Iowa players hear plenty of noise this week.
Alston said the Iowa State Fight Song is typically played on speakers throughout the Hawkeyes’ locker room, weight room and throughout the Iowa football complex early and often during the week as Iowa prepares.
“They play it to get you angry. You get tired of hearing it,’’ he said. “They play it over and over. You don’t want to hear it by Saturday.’’
It didn’t take the senior from New Jersey long to get a feel for the intensity of the rivalry that will be renewed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Kinnick Stadium where the Hawkeyes and Cyclones renew acquaintances.
“First day,’’ he recalled. “You get here, you go to the (team) kickoff meeting, coach (Kirk) Ferentz is talking about the year, and says ‘This is Iowa State, they don’t like us.’’

Same coach, same philosophies. First thing discussed when you get on campus is the big Iowa State game followed by posters, fight song, etc.
Rumor has it they are doing Iowa State wallpaper this year instead of just multiple posters and whatever clip art Doyle put together

I agree with this. I've been to both many times and I wouldn't call one better than the other. They're both a lot of fun and they're both very different from one another. Calling one better than the other is simply personal preference. Of course I like Jack Trice better because that's my team and I have a more enjoyable experience there.
That's what is funny about Iowa. Their players are honest and don't get they should be acting like Iowa doesn't care about the game.
The fans and coaches always toe that line even though the reality is what the players have stated year after year.
It's really rather sad that the fans and coaches have to create that fictitious world to make themselves feel better.
This is like saying you can't compare any two things because people are biased. BS
Maybe it would help to establish criteria:
1. Parking
2. Fan support
3. Proximity to stadium
4. Restrooms
5. Friendliness of fans to other fan bases
6. Ease of getting to stadium from tailgate?
The point isn't what Hawk fans or Cyclone fans prefer. The day Hawk fans admit anything isnt as nice as Iowa states will be a first. Many of them still can't bring themselves to admit ISU is the biggest University in the state. (See lies about admission requirements).... again sad.
So what criteria above would Iowa be better than ISU? Feel free to add your own.
BTW the day I see universities tearing up their parking to put in housing around the stadium is when I will believe Iowa has a better tailgating atmosphere. Iowa has no choice. ISU could imitate Iowa any time they wanted. I wonder why they don't? LOL
One year, I guess KF started the year by walking them by the case to hold their special trophies for their various rivalry games, which was empty, and went off.

That's certainly a strange criteria to which you judge the football atmosphere. Also, why would anyone care the largest university is? Iowa has and always will have the biggest footprint in the state. UCF is largest college in florida, and Miami isn't even top 10 in the state...
It's tied with San Jose St for the least important game on Iowa State's schedule is what I was saying.
How old are you, and will you be attending?
Based on the answers to those two questions, I can guess with 99.9% certainty whether or not someone likes or dislikes that this game might be played at night.
I'm going to go way out on a limb and predict "younger than 30" as your answer to Question #1, and if you're older than that, then I'm going to guess "no" is your answer to Question #2.

The Iowa Rivals publisher tried to argue with a straight face last year that Purdue was a more important game to Iowa fans than the CyHawk game was, and both of your arguments are equally ridiculous.
The "conference games are more important than anything" argument only holds water if you are actually going to be in contention for a conference title. The difference between going 2-7 and 3-6 in the Big XII is completely irrelevant to any human being with an IQ higher than that of a deer tick.
Pretty sure you've said the same thing about the MBB game vs. Iowa. We know that's true.

I'll believe Iowa isn't your SuperBowl when you begin talking more Iowa State than you do Iowa. Get back to in-state forum.
Of course the Iowa State game is more important for Iowa fans than some of their conference games. Look at the conference Iowa plays in. Iowa State plays in a good conference and a conference game will always be more important than playing a team from the Big Ten.
