Iowa game at Kinnick under the lights?

Iowa has a unique stadium and gives them a pretty nice place to play. Similar to Hilton/Carver.

But anyone who says that Iowa City is a better place to tailgate versus Ames is stupid. been there many times and done both venues.
This would kind of be like me as a vikings fan saying the Vikings is a better place to tailgate than the Chiefs.
Cars in parking lots, churches and back yards versus a wide open concept like ISU and KC.
Not even close guys.... I would argue if Iowa is 3-9, there would be 40K people there and most students would be at home. You see that with a 5 win season.

They went 4-8 a few seasons ago and every single game sold out.

Trying to argue personal preference is just stupid. Let's poll the fanbase of each school. 99.9% of Iowa fans will take the Kinnick/yard experience, and 99.9% of Clone fans will take Trice/pavement. I'm sure it would be a shocking outcome for many.

I guess that's where we differ then. No biggie. Different preferences I guess.

I usually dread going to the ISU-Iowa game, no matter where it's being played. I was in IC for the 2002 game. Obviously I loved the outcome, but I still wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it. People yelling obscenities at me every time I went to the restroom or concessions, etc. Drunk Iowa fans in the stands around us nearly threatening our lives if we even thought about cheering for ISU.

Just not enjoyable for me at all. And afterwards, I just wanted to get to my car and get out of there alive. Surviving was my #1 concern, not enjoying the victory.

It's just become too hostile for my liking. I can take good natured ribbing from a healthy rivalry, but this has become much different IMO at this point. Dodging **** filled beer cans flying through the air at you is not enjoyable for me.

I have not had anything close to this happen to me, and my assumption is you're being overly dramatic to what has happened to you. The fact you're worried about getting out of the game alive is rather humorous since there has never been a homicide or even an assault at a game that Im aware of...

I know quite a few Iowa fans who would take ISU's tailgate setup in a heartbeat...

LOL, define "quite a few." Unless it's at least 0.1% of the entire fanbase, your observation is completely worthless.

I bet I could find a few Clone fans that would pick the Iowa set-up. It's just such a stupid, pointless argument.

What we do know for an absolute fact is that Iowa has a larger stadium, has attracted more fans for generations upon generations, and has a larger fanbase in general.

But I'm sure they all think the tailgating sucks compared to Ames.

The space crunch has gotten worse over the years, but no, parking is not nearly gone. I park right by the stadium, and I'm a not a donor to the university.

Sounds like even hok fans aren't very stoked on the atmosphere.

Well that's, like, your opinion, man.

I could give you the phone numbers of 1,000 Iowa fans right now who would state exactly the opposite, but for some reason I think you'd dismiss it.

I've been to Ames for a CyHawk game and I would rank it near the bottom of the several hundred tailgating experiences that I've had in my life.

This is a little bit like arguing about women. Some like fat girls, some skinny, some white, some dark-skinned...some even like dudes (NTTAWWT).

Everyone has their own opinion, and yours has been duly noted.

Some HUGE Iowa fans I'm actually friends with attended their first game at ISU last year for the Iowa-ISU game. They have had season tickets at Iowa for nearly 20 years now.

Their first comment upon driving up to tailgate at ISU was "Holy Sh&t, this is AWESOME! I wish IC had a set up like this for tailgating!".

I haven't tailgated at Iowa for several years now, but from everything I've heard from some fellow Hawkeye friends of mine that do, is that the athletic department took over some of the few remaining parking lots by the stadium to build their new football offices and permanent indoor practice facility.

From what they tell me, there are only a few lots left near the stadium, and you need to donate MEGA bucks to have any chance of getting parking pass there. A lot of people tailgate at Carver I guess, but that's a good ways away. I guess you can park in the hospital parking ramps, whoopee.... sounds like a great tailgating experience to me.... you can't even enjoy the sunshine.

Iowa was just kind of stuck with where they are at geographically. They had to expand their offices, practice facilities, etc to keep up with everyone else, but they had nowhere to expand to. They were forced to take over the few parking lots they had left.

And with that we have a new addition to my Ignore List!

Wow, tremendous anecdote. I have been to Ames for an Iowa game, with a Cyclone friend who had never been to a game at Trice before, and neither of us had a response anywhere close to that.

I have lost track of how many times I have heard from non-Iowa, non-ISU fans how awesome their experience in Iowa City was. Far more often than I'm sure you've had of similar experiences in Ames.

The last part of your post is generally correct, but there is still parking available nearby for those that are willing to look for it. I can think of at least two places within very short walking distance that had spots available last year.

Most people are too lazy or cheap to bother looking, so you get the "absolutely no parking available anywhere" crap that just isn't true.

You're an Iowa fan who thinks tailgating in Iowa City is better than tailgating in Ames. Most Iowa fans I know would say otherwise but your bias seems pretty strong on this one.

Last year you guys did help our SOS, I admit that. Still doesn't mean you were actually all that good though. The B1G was terrible.

But it's our in conference schedule that usually puts our SOS WAY above Iowa's every year. Iowa played virtually nobody in conference last year, and again this year too by the way. Which is why Iowa's record was so over inflated last year. So glad Stanford put them in their place.

But generally, beating Iowa hasn't done much for us. That's mostly our own fault though, but part of it is that Iowa just isn't that good. Beating Iowa or not beating Iowa usually doesn't indicate how our conference season will go at all because most of the teams we play in conference are usually better than Iowa anyway.

B1G had 6 teams finish the season ranked in the top 25 last year with 3 in the top 10, Big 12 had 4 and 2.

I have met thousands of Iowa fans in my day, and never once have I heard the sentiment that you describe expressed.

I do, however, know about a dozen or so that swear they will never step foot in Ames again, even if it means the lives of their children would be spared from some terrible disease.

I don't mind tailgating in Ames, it's not bad, just kind of a boring set up being in a massive lot. And I can get that in I.C. if I want at Finkbine Commuter Lot. I.C. just has more fun options.

Dan or Section, I'm thinking Dan. Section would probably hold off for a while before trying to get banned

I would question any publication who would place Iowa that high for not being objective and praising a disjointed mess and letting the Iowa fan enthusiasm cloud their judgement. Yard tailgating? Parking ramp tailgating? Really? I hated tailgating at Iowa.

Heck, I've seen people praise Soldier Field for tailgating. As a Bears fan, I was highly disappointed in it and didn't like my bias parrot it was good.
