Just talked to my father, he asked if I had any clothes that would fit him to bring them. He currently has nothing.
raw video on WHO TV - Des Moines: Home - News, Weather, Sports and Election coverage for Central Iowa, Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, Clive, Indianola, Marshalltown, Norwalk, Urbandale and Windsor Heights. shows alot more damage that is just amazing and saddening at the same time.
I was just thinking....Who is in charge of turning on the sirens for each town? Are they hooked up to the NWS and they trigger the siren for people to take shelter?
I'm not sure who's responsible for that. Its really amazing looking at that footage that more people weren't hurt.
I took meteorology this semester. I don't remember much, but I'm pretty sure f-5 no longer exists and they changed how to determine sizes recently. But I am not positive
The NWS doesn't trigger any sirens they just issue the warnings. Usually it is the sherrif/police department responsible for triggering the sirens based on the warnings. also remember that the sirens are designed to warn people outside and are not intended to be relied upon inside the home. That's why there are television warnings and weather radios.
Hopefully now people realize how asinine it is to complain about tv stations interrupting programming to bring severe weather warnings. It's always important to someone.
Yeah... I remember that thread.... Its a very good thing to have and it does save lives. Weather warnings aren't just to **** people that have HD off. It does save lives.
My aunt lost her life in the Parkersburg tornado this afternoon, my uncle is in critical condition in Iowa City hospitals....unbelievable.
