Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

It's the narrative they've fed the hawk sheep for generations. They are thrilled fred is leaving. The odds of iowa state regressing back to a mediocre level increase dramatically with Fred Hoiberg not being the head coach.

And for the people chastising others for being upset, it needs to be understood that this coach, and his wife, know exactly what this move means to everyone associated with iowa state and Ames. This isn't Beverly Floyd wanting out, this is a hometown hero and his hometown childhood sweetheart.

There is a much bigger statement here than just losing a coach, no matter how people want to spin it in the ad.
Get a grip. Only bluebloods don't lose coaches. You know what Fred and his family know about ISU MBB? That him leaving will be overcome. That every coach except one in the past 30 years has had success, with 4 of the past 5 reaching the second round by Year 2.

The story of Fred Hoiberg having success as coach of ISU cannot be matched, the success can be.

I would imagine JP is filling up his gas tank so he can drive himself to the tailgate tour stop and then back instead of taking the bus. I know his son runs at state track tomorrow so who knows. This should be the least of our worries...

Also, if Fred leaves I will officially bump my infamous "Wheels" thread, because it is the only appropriate response.

. And all of that is fine but let's not pretend Fred is different than his other coaching peers. I know we all want to believe differently but it's just not true.

Those that praised Fred like a god want to believe different. He was a great player at Iowa St for 4 years, then took over a program that was a complete dumpster fire, and made it great again. He doesn't owe you or anyone else anything. So don't act like he **** all over the university.

I bet part of Fred's desire to coach in the NBA is bc his playing days in the NBA were cut short

This. You don't leave a dream job after 5 years to go onto the next job.

People wanted to think Fred was different than the typical coach. But he's not. He continually leveraged the AD for more money, he said he wanted to hang banners, he has flirted with the NBA on more than one occasion all while professing his love for Iowa State. And all of that is fine but let's not pretend Fred is different than his other coaching peers. I know we all want to believe differently but it's just not true.

This is exactly what the WRNL article that got everyone so riled up was saying, IMO. Fred's just another coach, and we were just another job on the way to something better. Everyone wanted him to be something different, and we all let our selves believe he was something different, but he's not.

Doesn't mean he's a villain or anything, he just wasn't a die hard ISU over everything fan like one of us. And we all thought he was.

Underwear too tight is my guess. It's very binding and restrictive.

President Johnson famously called his pants tailor complaining that the crotch was too tight and asked for me room from the balls to the bunghole.

good part starts at 1:50 but the whole thing is gold

the bottom line is, Fred treated ISU like any other school, just like any other job. There should be no problem with ISU fans treating him like any other coach. I dont' hate the guy, its just the nature of the job.

Did Fred ever actually use the words "ISU is my dream job"? I'm honestly asking because I don't know. There is a world of difference between saying that as compared to saying "coaching at ISU has been a dream of mine".

Well, if this quote doesn't say "dream job" I don't know what does:

“I’d love to end my career here,†Hoiberg said in a phone interview with the Ames Tribune. “I’ve got something special in Ames. My kids get to see their grandparents every day if they want to, and that’s stuff you can’t replace. To look up in the crowd (during games) and there’s my parents, my in-laws, my brother, my sister-in-law, my other brother drives over from Omaha a lot, just to have that family support, you can’t replace that.“I’m very happy here. My kids love it. I’d love to spend the rest of my career here.†- See more at: http://amestrib.com/sports/men-s-basketball-hoiberg-gets-raise-isu#sthash.0UeZ0tym.dpuf

That quote is what will leave a bitter taste in people's mouth, and why the media should stop pretending to be shocked that any ISU fan would be upset at Fred. If he had left after 8 or 10 years, then that would be a completely different scenario.
