I'm sorry but I just don't buy that texting and driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving.
I pulled up DOT crash info for Polk County, I couldn't find it for statewide easily. in 2011, drug and alcohol impairment caused 49 crashes, 44 injuries (4 fatalities and 5 major injuries). Compare that to distracted drivers, which includes texting and driving as a subset and you have 43 crashes with 16 injuries (0 fatalities and 3 major injuries).
I know a one year review doesn't mean a lot but I've researched this in the past and I believe that trend continues across multiple years.
I also think it's crazy we focus so much on those two areas but everyone is nonchalant about speeding, which, in 2011 caused 466 crashes, 182 injuries (5 fatalities and 13 major injuries).
I guess I'm just in the minority though.
