Brackens

2 guesses (just guesses). CPR doesn't think the other guys are any better. Or, and more importantly, firing a OC 1/2 through the season may make it harder to hire a new OC. Coaching is a tight community and it's not well thought of to fire a guy in the middle of a season.

Texas can do it, b/c they are Texas. 99% of OC's would still go there in a heartbeat. We aren't Texas.
. Agree here, if you want a so called blank blank coordinator you do not fire them mid season. Come on its business, and sorry we are not and never will be texass for well you know.............................................money.

The offense is poopy. Why fire the OC of the poopy offense and promote a coach from the same poopy staff that is responsible for the poopy offense? Poop.

Snap your fingers and it all gets better, right? I mean that is what you want.

How long have we been in better financially? 3 years? And we JUST got a new football facility. Do you think all of a sudden that takes over and trumps 100 years of bad tradition? It takes time. The football facility helps bring in better recruits (which we are seeing), the players get time to develop while using it (1 year isn't enough to expect results), and it all flows from there.

I know it's hard to say "be patient" when ISU fans have been waiting for so long but…..be patient!

Its sure enough time to weaken an entire teams MCL.

I do. Seriously. I don't think there will be any changes to this staff in the offseason. Coaches will cite the rash of injuries and that we had several close losses as the reasons for no changes.
Count me in this camp as well. I don't see any changes for next year.

If you have the choice between eating a poop sandwich and some other unknown food item, which would you take?

If it's so clear to PR that Mess is the problem, why wait to make a change? If it's about not calling the right plays or not putting guys in the proper position to succeed, then let someone else on the staff have a crack at it. He does have TWO former OCs on staff currently. If it's a system issue, then you have to wait. If it's just the wrong guy wearing the headset, then make a change now and make it better.
I think it's deeper than play calls. I think it goes all the way to fundamentals and technique. ISU has athletic wrs but somehow they have trouble finding seperation and the qbs are obviously not progressing as they should. Many other factors that effect that including an inconsistent OLine and injuries but still. ISU was moving the ball fairly well in numerous stretches this year, but why is that not more consistent? Something is obviously missing.

If people think this place is bad now, just wait until Rhoads announces it's going to be status quo. I don't that will happen but it would be bad around here.

Your first thought scares me a bit. We have 2 former OC's on staff who can't do a better job than a guy who was bad enough to get fired? Yikes.

As for the second, while not ideal to let someone go in the middle (or last 1/3) of a season, it's hardly unprecedented. But I can see the merit of that argument.

I'm torn. I want to see new leadership but yet I also want to sit back and watch the dumpster fire that would occur if this happens.

Then you haven't been listening in the right places. You've been watching Palmer "carry the banner"...

Well I don't listen to postgame shows, coaches press conferences, podcasts, or anything like that, so you're probably right.
I just know that there are several high school coaches in the state who, based on their communication with CPR and the football staff, would be shocked if Messingham did not return as OC.

Department will lose way too much money if something isn't done. At least one head will roll.

Good lord. There better not be any high school coach that thinks he is leaving. The last thing you want those guys to think is there some instability. High School guys won't know anything till it happens.

^^^^^ THIS! I know I am a person that is financially in a position that I have to choose between football and basketball season tickets. I have chosen football b/c of it's easier for me to make it to all of them and I love the tailgating atmosphere. But if no changes are made with our OC I will be switching to season basketball tickets next year and know of some people that only care about football who will not renew their season tickets if nothing is done. I would much rather pay to watch a coach who is about bettering his program and making the right decisions to put the best out there for the Cyclone Nation to enjoy watching. By bringing Mess back he is not putting the best man out there. We have cycled through 4 QB's in 2 years and none have progressed or even been serviceable. At some point you have to stop blaming the kids and you start to look at the guy in charge of that position which so happens to also be our OC.

Sorry about the delay. CPR was having a teaching moment with Brackens and Brackens was completely ignoring him. You had to see it live but it was a complete disrespect and I can't believe that CPR allowed him to play. I did see about 30 seconds later that CPR was in his face.
