Brackens

Boy, I got really disappointed when I thought I was going to get an update on Craig Brackens and then I get more crap about the football team and coaches. I guess I'll go back to yard work until tomorrow when the basketball team plays.

How can you say Rhoads has lost this team? Did you watch the defense today? They played inspired and emotional like Rhoads wanted them to. As for Rhoad's antics, the players love the coach fighting for them when they are getting screwed over. The players and recruits love him and I have seen this first hand.

As for Brackens, he has a history of back talking the coaches, just look to last year when he didn't get to play vs KU and WV because he was in the coaches doghouse.

This is my impression though you obviously have more to base it on. We certainly didn't play well on offense but still managed to almost win.

Does anyone really think we will have the same OC next year? We will have a new one.
This is where I am at which is why I have not been as outraged every single game. It was finalized last week by the KSU beating that ISU wasn't bowling this year. So why not support these guys, let them get the experience the rest of the season and shoot for next year. If Rhoads does fail to make a move at OC, then I think people have plenty of reason to call out Rhoads.
i just don't understand this idea that if he fires Messingham in the middle of the season, that some how something positive will come from it.

right...that never works (Texas)

So I'm guessing no one knows why he went off on CPR? Meh, either way, Charlie has played better than Brackens.

6 years later and you still don't know its Brackins.....

Snap your fingers and it all gets better, right? I mean that is what you want.

How long have we been in better financially? 3 years? And we JUST got a new football facility. Do you think all of a sudden that takes over and trumps 100 years of bad tradition? It takes time. The football facility helps bring in better recruits (which we are seeing), the players get time to develop while using it (1 year isn't enough to expect results), and it all flows from there.

I know it's hard to say "be patient" when ISU fans have been waiting for so long but…..be patient!

I was directing that response to the idea of not being able to bring in an established coaching staff, I don't know where you are coming from or what direction you are going with this.

Obviously got our wires crossed there. My apologies than. I'll blame it on the beer, the wind (my face is wind burned like no other), and the tough loss.

CPR is now all bluster and talk.....but nothing to back it up.

Now just a laughable quote machine to the media..

I hope that is not true but I cannot shake the feeling that in a couple of more years we will find out that is exactly what we have.

I do. Seriously. I don't think there will be any changes to this staff in the offseason. Coaches will cite the rash of injuries and that we had several close losses as the reasons for no changes.

We are 1-6 in games decided by seven points or less with Mess as OC, we were 9-5 in the same category with Herman. That in addition to the points per game and offensive production is enough to let Mess go and I think Paul realizes that.

Honestly some of the comments make me wonder

I think PR has made it pretty clear. Pretty much every time he speaks he comments on how pitiful the offense is, many times he has referred to poor play calling, not putting guys in a spot to succeed. Mess is gone. Zero chance he stays.

I agree with what cyatheart said. I'll be shocked if there aren't multiple changes made.

If it's so clear to PR that Mess is the problem, why wait to make a change? If it's about not calling the right plays or not putting guys in the proper position to succeed, then let someone else on the staff have a crack at it. He does have TWO former OCs on staff currently. If it's a system issue, then you have to wait. If it's just the wrong guy wearing the headset, then make a change now and make it better.

2 guesses (just guesses). CPR doesn't think the other guys are any better. Or, and more importantly, firing a OC 1/2 through the season may make it harder to hire a new OC. Coaching is a tight community and it's not well thought of to fire a guy in the middle of a season.

Texas can do it, b/c they are Texas. 99% of OC's would still go there in a heartbeat. We aren't Texas.
