The Mitchell Report (Names Added)

I'm pleasantly surprised that Luis Gonzalez isn't on the list. He was big fan favorite down here in Phoenix, but there were rumors about his sudden power surge.

Re: The Mitchell Report

Drunk driving isn't performance enhancing.

What I think this will do for me is really respect some of the names that aren't on the list or aren't suspected of juicing even more. If Frank Thomas or Jim Thome aren't suspected, it really shows how good they actually were.

Frank Thomas is/was really not a HR hitter. He is...should say was a gap hitter that was strong. Even still he didn't put up monster/ridiculous numbers like McGwire, Sosa or Bonds did. He combined good power with a very good avg and drove in runs while walking a lot. Frank was one of the first players advocating for testing. Franks HR numbers look GREAT when compared to the 80s or before...but look almost AVG when compared to the 90s or beyond. If he is innocent (and there is no reason to believe he is NOT chemical-free), he might have been screwed more than any player in his era. He would be talked about as an automatic HOF guy...DH or not!

Frank Thomas has been a huge advocate of steroid testing throughout his career. He was mad that his great career has been trumped by some other players from his era who were using. Frank won't be on the list.

Wasn't aware Ankiel was suspected a while back - I don't follow the sport that close. Just know there was a huge love affair with him with his comeback.

Wow, lot of players that used to play for the Cubs. Wether they all were on the juice when with the Cubs is another story though. Wood, Prior, and Sosa certainly would have but the rest didn't have very long stints with the Cubs for the most part.

Manny Alexander
Kyle Farnsworth
Nomar Garciaparra
Jerry Hairston
Felix Heredia, Jr.
Matt Lawton
Robert Machado
Mark Prior
Neifi Perez
Rafael Palmiero
Sammy Sosa
Julian Tavarez
Ismael Valdez
Kerry Wood

Yeah, when the love affair hit its crescendo, it came out that he purchased HGH. I dislike the Cards but was really rooting for him during his call-up, but this took all the goodwill I had for him away.

I count 8 former/current Cardinals on that list...ouch for me

Not to mention the "don of roids" Tony LaRussa is the Cardinals manager. He certainly didn't have a problem looking the other way back in the 80's when the "Bash Brothers" came on the scene. You could argue that LaRussa's A's were where this whole mess started.

Oh, and Jose Canseco seems a hell of a lot more credible now, doesn't he? I'm sure he'll soon be pushing another tell-all book soon.

You've got a great point there.

I just realized that Lenny Dykstra is on the list. That's really disappointing, too.

Look at all those players on roids, and they still sucked every year.

Just a friendly jab at all you Cubs fans out there.

Wow, this actually may make following baseball interesting again. What are they going to do? This is pretty much a who's who list of the stars of baseball.

The answer? Nothing. Even with all those Cards on the list, I don't see them doing anything. Even thought I wish they would. Take for instance the Ankiel situation earlier this year...they had proof that Ankiel had received roids and he admitted it. However, they didn't have any positive tests to prove that he actually took them. So, he got off with nothing.

I don't see them doing anything to anyone unless they have definitive proof that they did something. Otherwise, they would most likely be looking at a lawsuit; especially if they suspend players based on allegations.

I don't think they'll be able to do much to the players because Mitchell didn't get access to test results.

However, every name in that report is going to be very damaged in the court of public opinion. It's goign to effect their careers greatly and is almost a guarantee that they won't make the Hall of Fame.

Of the names on the list, I think the only ones who have a chance to make the Hall of Fame someday will be Bonds and Clemens, but I will not be surprised if neither of them do.

Another thing that will come out of this report is Mitchell's suggestions on how to clean up the game.

One of the biggest things that I've heard is that he is going to suggest that baseball's drug testing be outsourced. I think this would be a terrific internal control.

Another guy that should get a refund from his supplier. I think the guy benefitted more from the juice that came from the wad of tobacco inside his lip than from the juice that came from the syringe (that is, if this list is to be trusted).

Lenny Dykstra was a very good player. Performance enhancing drugs aren't all about hitting HR. I'm not sure what you're talking about.

The Farns? Say it ain't so...

Well, since Pujol's is on the list, Jose will have to find a new player to worship.

There's nothing like a big wad of chaw to help with your swing.

True, but of the names on the list, Sosa and Woody are the one's that have any major impact for the Cubs. Most of those guys probably had to juice just to stay in the league. Palmeiro had his prime years with the O's and Prior has been hurt most of his career.
