Neinas: Big 12 might help WVU pay exit fee - CBSSports.com

Specifically, Neinas said that if West Virginia needs some financial assistance from the Big 12 in order to pay its exit fee, the league "would talk with WVU about it."
"It would be an internal matter for our Board of Directors to determine," Neinas said. "If West Virginia makes a request, we'll take it to the board."

Here's what Memphis to Big East tells me: Louisville to B12 is happening. Big East moves to Memphis to secure that secondary area.
 
Let's see those complete schedules from the BE and B12. Bball from Louisville should be a good venue to watch.
 
Does it really mean Louisville is leaving for the Big 12? If anything it makes it possible for the Mountaineers to move a little sooner, but I don't really see what the connection would be between Memphis-->Big East and Louisville-->Big 12. Other than the fact that Louisville people want it to happen.

I think there will eventually be conference expansion, but Louisville is always gong to be there as a fall-back option. I think the conference would first bend over backwards to get a more notable football program before settling for Louisville.

Yeah, I tend to agree. If some of the ACC programs like FSU and Clemson are really interested in talking, we should be looking at the options there before taking Louisville.
 
It probably has more to do with the idea that the Big East is trying to get to 12 teams for a championship game.

I thinks it's also a case of the Big East trying to cover their ***** if any other teams do jump ship. It comes accross better if they make themselves out as proactive instead of reactive. If they announce expansion now, it makes them look better if there is any more contraction.

I'm not sure if it really makes them look better by adding one of the worst programs in all of college football.

Personally, I don't want to see Louisville in the B12. If they are dead set on adding two more teams, either go big or don't bother (my personal opinion).

In what possible way.

Some MBB history? They went to a BCS bowl when Petrino was there a handful of years ago? Big deal. You are highly over valuing Louisville.

I see no reason in messing up what has been an enjoyable round robin format for the likes of Lousiville which will add little to anything in the way of financial gain for the rest of the conference. It would be like a Pitt/Syracuse add in the ACC which netted each school an additional million (even though it's now 14 teams playing 9 games instead of the 12 playing 8).

I agree. Maybe Louisville is coming. But I think this just means that WV will for sure be in the Big12 next year.

Lousiville is still a brand name/traditional power in MBB.....and one we need to have in order to get some conference wins in FB.

They've been top 5 in basketball attendance for decades straight. 22k sold out arena annually.

Their fb stadium has been newly expanded and renovated. Their overall athletic budget is larger than Missouri.

Slam dunk.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge basketball fan, but this is a football first conference, a basketball draw isn't all that important.

I've seen the numbers on their supposed athletic budget, but I've also seen their attendance numbers for football and the Big East TV contract. Either they are pulling in some major donor money at this point in time, dipping into the education fund or cooking the books, because there is no way that program is making that kind of cash.

Would anyone really want to add Louisville if it meant breaking up the round robin scheduling? I sure as hell wouldn't.
