Why? To feed the defeatist personalities of the vocal minority?
For the types that spout off about diluting the conference with less than stellar programs so there would be more easily won games on the schedule, feel free to grow a set.
Our current FB situation sucks....we need teams we can beat in this conference. We will never be on the level of the powers (TX, OK) in the conference on a constant basis. we need other teams we can beat...not defeatist...just reality.

Round robin and no cream puffs in football = no Big 12 in title games. SEC has the correct format for the road to a title game: Easy non-conference, 8 conference games, and some cream puffs in conference.
This is where we fundamentally differ. I really enjoyed the schedule. I found the entire B12 season to be much, much more interesting as a whole with the round robin schedule.
Also, declaring that it's a reality that ISU will never be able to compete is the definition of being a defeatiest.

Have to side with Cyph on this one. The round-robin schedule is 100x more fun than the divisional schedule was for both football and basketball. We keep saying we have keepers coaching our football and MBB teams. If that is truly the case, there is no reason we can't keep improving and be competitive regardless of our conference situation.
That and trying desperately to play ball with the basketball schools so they don't up and decide they are better off breaking out in their own non-football conference instead flying to prestigous hoops powerhouses like SMU, USF, and Houston.
If you base your opinion on the fact that there are more assigned stars of perceived potential on their way to the likes of Austin, then sure, there is no chance in hell.
To do that of course, you have to throw out the fact that the likes of Texas and their top recruiting classes have been mediocre the last couple of years while a school like Oklahoma State which recruits at a level about one step above ISU won the B12 last year. Or hell, a school like Kansas State that recruits at the same level as ISU (according to the recruiting sites, of course) came in a measley 2nd.
I'm citing exactly what happened last season in the B12. If you're going to use examples, I've found that the most recent set tend to be the most topical.
Hell, I wasn't even aware that there was a rule in terms of perceptions and possibilities.
I like round robin too, and generally agre with CYPhyllis on this one. I'm fine with going back to divisional play so long as were adding quality programs that increase pay out for everyone and make us money.

I agree with this. I know divisional may result in more FB wins for Iowa State, but it really would be a shame to throw away the sense of being a unified conference that is fostered with the round-robin schedule. Fixing the schedule from what the Big 12 previously used would help with that.
For those of you calling for Clemson and Florida State, if you believe this guy who has been the one bringing it up, he says they're going to talk about it and decide by the end of the summer.

It's cool for basketball but I hate the nine game schedule for football unless the SEC and Big Ten do it.
I don't like the idea that ISU football is now guaranteed a top five schedule out of 120+ teams EVERY SINGLE YEAR. It's fine when we hit that once in a while but having it locked in every year just stacks the deck against ISU.
I'd be thrilled adding any teams that make our fb schedule not a lock for top 5 SOS every single season. Whether that comes from playing 8 games or comes from adding some teams who aren't in the top 25 every year doesn't matter much to me.
What an absolutely terrible decision. Yes basketball is great but football is terrible. Dear Big East commish, your conference is falling apart because of bad football and reliance on basketball.
I think the ACC is heading this way too.
