BYU and the Big 12

Adding BYU and AFA would not make any financial sense. The existing B12 schools would certainly take a revenue hit by doing so.

AFA's academic restrictions make it very difficult to compete in the B12. They've had their moments in FB and BB while in the MWC but those would be very rare in the B12. Also, their attendence in FB and BB is not up to B12 standards.

And as long as the B12 isn't desperate to add schools and academics are a factor, Memphis will likely never be an option for the B12.

Sad to say, but their attendance rivals ISU's attendance. For example, Falcon Stadium seats approx 52,500 people and is usually full for every game due to the student body, AF personnel and past grads. JT seats approx 55,000 people and is only full for big time games such as EIU, Nebby, etc... So, when talking attendance, AFA is really the same as ISU.

2009 average - ISU 46.2; AFA 35.6
2008 average - ISU 47.4; AFA 38.1
2007 average - ISU 49.4; AFA 38.0
2006 average - ISU 46.1; AFA 38.0

I'd prefer BYU and a team east of the Mississippi.
If we went to travel partners in a Round robin BB schedule
Mo would get paired with the eastern team (cincy, Lville)
and we'd get BYU. Meaning the week we play BYU we have an open date
and our Saturday home conference games would be against teams that played
at BYU on Thursday.

Clueless. Sounds like the same people that thought the Big 12 was going to stay the same. The landscape of college football has changed, 10 teams will not cut it long term.

If the big 12 stays together as 10 the landscape of college football cannot change. The big 12 holds the key. As it stands right now there is no place for the PAC 10 to expand to. If superconferences become a reality then IOwa State could possibly be on the outside looking in.

That does not mean I'm opposed to adding two teams to the conference as long as they are the right teams and BYU would be a school who could possibly add value. Toodles.

ISU, KU, KSU and Missouri should all be DYING to get BYU to join. It has nothing to do with money or ratings. It has everything to do with strengthening their position should the South teams bolt to the SEC/Pac Ten/Big Ten mega-conference BS.

If those 4 are out in the cold again, or even two or three of them, better to reform with BYU in the fold already. Those 5... add Boise State, CSU, TCU, a few Big East castoffs, and you're still viable.

Plus I think BYU just adds a lot in terms of winning tradition, overall athletic program, national following, etc...

where are all the 10 teams only/ big 12 will never expand people? every time i make a comment about adding teams those people hammer me about it. did they all give up?

I'd like to see BYU added and then sit on 11 teams. That strengthens the conference and probably ends any talk of super-conferences for a long time. I agree, the Big 12 is the key to super-conferences. As long as the Big 12 exists with Texas, OU, and A&M, super-conferences will never happen.

Add BYU, stay at 11 teams, and use the B10 model of scheduling.

I think it's interesting that all of the other BCS conferences are thinking about expansion and the Big12 (10) is happy with sitting on their ***. BYU would be a great fit, and if it were my call, I'd grab Air Force also.

Big12 North:

Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Missouri
Brigham Young
Air Force

You just took the pie, left it the same size, and divided it two more ways. Basically, Iowa State giving the go-ahead on those schools is suicide.

I agree 100%. It's a mistake for to be complacent. There's a quality football school out there... one with a national fan base, that gets you back market you lost with Colorado/Nebraska. It's not an ideal geography fit, but better than most.

Don't add BYU and then a 12th school just to get to 12, but get BYU, then add a 12th school when it makes sense. It would make sense either when one becomes available from a collapse somewhere else, or when not moving to 12 seems like a big mistake because of other moves.

Boise State is only about 150 miles from BYU. If you really need 12 for some reason I'm sure they'd always be interested, they even have wrestling to get the Big 12 back to 5 since the Huskers left.

Adding just BYU does not leave the pie the same size, you add a historic program with a national fan base and national recognition. Your argument makes sense for Air Force though.

BYU adds more than Colorado did in some ways. Do you think it helped for Colorado to leave if that would have been the only move?

What positives does Boise State bring? A football program that plays 1, maybe 2 decent teams per year. The rest of their athletics are ******. Their academics place them just above a JuCo. They're in the middle of ******* nowhere in regards to everyone else.

Not to mention we'd have to play on that damn smurf turf.

and in regards to the above, BYU has about as much of a national following as Iowa State. I have yet to see anything that says they have a huge following that isn't Iowa State fans trying to bend things in a light so that it makes sense. They aren't Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Notre Dame, Nebraska, etc.

I didn't say they bring a ton of positives. BYU does bring a ton of positives and you're kind of ignorant of college football history to not see that.

I said if you add BYU to get to 11, then sometime you feel you need a 12th, at least BSU is a close rival to add for them.

BSU would probably be just outside of my top 5 realistic teams to add. BYU I feel would be the best team to realistically add. Louisville and Cincinnati would be 2 and 3 that may be realistically available. After that any realistic school we could add has obvious negatives (TCU, BSU, Tulsa, Memphis, Houston, CSU, AFA).

Suicide? LOL. It's not like I proposed to add Southern Illinois. BYU has a great national following, much like Nebraska did and would bring in Utah markets. Air Force, I think would bring the Colorado markets back somewhat (not like CU did) but its all about footprint. I'd think Air Force would have some national appeal not only in the US, but world wide with the service men and women.

As an ISU fan, I wish we had the football tradition, national fan following and national recognition that BYU football has.

If you can't see that you're the one trying to bend things. I doubt you could find any non-ISU fan that thought ISU had similar history/fanbase/brand recognition in football as BYU.

Tell me that you wouldn't want to play a game there. 52,500 seat stadium, in the middle of the Rockies. AFA would be a good add for the Big12 North.

And BYU:
