BYU and the Big 12

To a fan of a university that desperately wanted to join the same conference.

Congratulations, a team you cheer for went from one BCS conference to another, while the original conference they were in has stayed together and everyone makes more money. This must make you pretty happy as it has allowed you to be soo bored on a Saturday night that you're trolling on boards of opposing teams from the old conference for some sad, sad reason.

I am not trolling - I said I am fine with what ever happens. And for your benefit WATCH OUT FOR TEXAS. They saved the Big 12 because it suited them FOR NOW. My advice: get ahead of the curve, work with Missouri, Kansas, K-State. Plan NOW for contingency plans, Texas WILL dump you in a heartbeat if they can make $1.70 more.

I think NU's game at Trice Stadium is going to be a good one. May the best team win.

I would like to know where you got that info at.
And from Cloned4Life
Should we JOIN the tiny 11? That would be awesome because we'd have an easier road athletically to win titles. And don't give me this ***** about how mighty OSU and Michigan are. We have a better shot beating them in football than we do OU or Texas. And with Freddy at the helm for MBB, we'd compete consistently for titles in that conference. Yes I have that much confidence in my man the Mayor. AND we'd have money!

I will continue to wholeheartedly make fun of any and all things tiny 11 unless we become a part of it. Then I'll make fun of all the other teams and laugh as we step in from day 1 and start making waves.

You don't think that ISU knows to watch out for Texas? They've dealt with Texas just as long as Nebraska has. ISU just isn't in as good of a position as Nebraska was. Believe me, ISU had a contingency plan (with MU, KU, KSU) and I'm sure they still do. I do believe that ISU would take a Big 11 invite in a second, but that's just not in the cards for us mostly due to demographics.

As far as the OP, I'd love to see the conference get BYU and Louisville. I think, though, that since the Big 12 has solidified (for now), they will sit back see what happens with the Big 11 and the SEC. BYU isn't going anywhere as the Pac 10 won't let them in. Louisville isn't really a threat to go anywhere either as I think that the SEC will look at UNC and Duke and possibly Clemson and FSU.

If the Big 12 expanded I would think BYU would be at the top of the list regardless of the television advantages proposed in the article. I personally would like to see BYU and Air Force added if the conference does expand. Both provide national followings to the conference, are great institutions, and make sense geographically. Split East/West so you have the old big 8 schools (less NE and CU) in the West, and BYU, AF, and the Texas Schools in the West.

I agree BYU would be a great addition but if the Big XII exist long enough to get back to 12 schools I think you name the divisions "Big 6" and "Southwest". This would get back to some history of the prior conferences and splits OU and TX into different divisions.

ksl.com - Independence could be BYU's best option

Interesting article. There seems to be a lot of smoke on BYU's board about the Big 12 and going independent.
I was aware that BYU had their own network but I never imagined that it was quite that elaborate and even to the point of being pretty appealing to ESPN. If there were some way to incorporate a network like this into the Big 12 I can see bringing BYU in as a big plus. Makes you wonder if the Big 12 might have thrown out a couple 'feelers' to BYU just to see what might be on the table.

I was reading an interesting article, I thought I would post it here, and see what Cyclone fan's thought.

BYU to the Big 12 is fine by me. But the next interesting article on bleacher report will be the first. It suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

My mother went to BYU for a year before returning to UNI. Im not against it. Whats a BYU fan like? Ive never met one before. If they are good people we should bring em on board. It wouldn't hurt to have ISU KSU KU and BYU together if the worst was to come.

Thanks for linking that article. BYU going independent for football could make some sense but it would seriously impair all of their other programs, especially BB.

BYU certainly has some desirable assets for the B12 but unless they are paired with Notre Dame as new additions, I don't see it making financial sense for the B12.

Regardless, Brigham Young HAS to be looked at by the Big 12. They need to pursue this and see how they could help the conference.

Selfishly, I like the addition of BYU and Air Force to the conference to replace Nebraska and Colorado, as they really make the most sense. Another school from the state of Texas will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER be added, and Memphis is probably the only other school that makes geographic sense - but BYU and AF would add two national followings (though not the greatest, they are schools with national followings) as well as the addition of two very well respected universities.

Plus, anyone who has ever been to the Air Force Academy can tell you it's just a neat freaking place to visit.

Adding BYU and AFA would not make any financial sense. The existing B12 schools would certainly take a revenue hit by doing so.

AFA's academic restrictions make it very difficult to compete in the B12. They've had their moments in FB and BB while in the MWC but those would be very rare in the B12. Also, their attendence in FB and BB is not up to B12 standards.

And as long as the B12 isn't desperate to add schools and academics are a factor, Memphis will likely never be an option for the B12.
