No biggie. From about 8 to 16 I spent my summers in Texas, and always missed the first week of school. I never missed anything.
I'm in the minority that thinks sending them to school should be the priority.
Your kid better worship you
I have the opportunity to take my kids to the Dells for a song but it would mean that my 5th grade daughter would miss the first 2.5 days of school. I'm leaning towards "no biggie" but what does everyone think?

Send her to school. It's the dells. Why can't you go the week before?

I don't think it's a bad thing to think this way, but the way I see it is this. It's a "family" thing. And the schools these days don't seem to have any reservations about letting the kids out for any number of other things during the year. There was one stretch of 3 weeks, during late winter, where my kid had 6 days off of school. Now granted, one of those was a snow day, but still, with teachers in service, parent conferences, Pulaski Day (yup, look it up) I don't see an issue with taking a kid on a family outing. At least for taking a day off of school, family seems at least equally important to me as a guy from Poland who made significant contributions to the revolutionary war Effort.
