Brock Purdy, quarterback, Iowa State: Purdy is popping up as a potential first-round draft pick in 2021 on numerous mock drafts. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore after setting single-season school records in passing yardage (3,892 yards), touchdowns (27), completions (312) and total offense (4,231 yards).

Charlie Kolar, tight end, Iowa State: Kolar was the first Cyclone in school history to be named to an All-American team and an Academic All-American team. He ended the 2019 season with 51 catches for 697 yards and a team-high seven touchdowns.

On That Note: We Got the Beat

Welcome back to “On That Note,” a music-discussion collaborative hosted by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500. I’ll take the reins for this segment.

This week, we seek songs that open with drums or percussion. That means: No other instruments or singing occurs before we hear a beat of some kind.
Random 3-fer from my list, to get us (drum)-rolling.

07-08 the Year of the Knee

Reading the CF story about Tocarra Ross brought back memories of what might have been that year and what did happen the following year. Not only did "T" go down, but a few weeks later Nicky Wieben blew her knee as well. Even without the two posts this gutty team went on to win their first two games in the Big 12 tourney and make the round of 32 in the Dance. It gave Jocelyn Anderson a chance to emerge which would pay dividends the following year. The team ended up 23-12.

in 08-09, this was a monster team. Three effective posts with Wieben, Anderson and Ross. Add to that lineup big names like Bolte, Lacey, Stuckey, Ezell, and Nizleit and wow...what a fun group to watch. Hilton was a place where you came to lose that year. The season ended with another loss to Stanford essentially a second home court game against the trees. Team ended up 29-9 And was another of the next ISU has ever seen. My favorite moment? Watching the Michigan State coach melt down when the sisters came back on a clutch Lacey shot to steal the Sweet Sixteen game.

Mike Nurse podcast

For those of you who didn't see this on twitter, I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. These are usually good, but Mike is really engaging and fun to listen to. He made a two mile walk in the rain and cold fly by. And he remembers everything! Also it was nice to hear him say that the basketball reunions have really helped him connect with the program and for the first time he feels a part of the family.

Will the Iowa state fair happen in 2020?

This has been on my mind since late March. August is a few months away, but will they allow about the million people who visit the fair each year to go? If it does happen, how different will it look? Low attendance? Not as many vendors? Curious of what everyone thought since it’s such a huge thing in this state.

Tuesday OT - The One Who Told Me To Knock You Out

Fair warning to all of the people on the board for whom time has ceased to have meeting - Mother's Day is this Sunday, and I'm going to guess there is a woman in your life who is nearing the end of her rope and would love some acknowledgment.

In honor of all of the mothers, I thought it might be fun to come up with songs dedicated to mothers. They may not be incredibly nostalgic or sweet, but let's blow up moms:

Kansas basketball tickets

Just call me surly for posting random ****.

But anyway, a few years ago I bought overpriced Kansas tickets through Stubhub for the Iowa State game (unfortunately the year before we won there). Somehow, I must have paid above listed price to the Kansas athletic department because suddenly I had a "Kansas ticket representative" call me and tell me he was going to be my guide through the Kansas ticket process. It was fun to tell him that I didn't need a guide because I wasn't a Kansas fan.

But I still get emails from their athletic department. Today I got the following email saying that they are lowering season ticket prices. Times must be tough in Lawerence!

ADDITIONAL TIERS AND LOWER SEASON TICKET PRICES FOR KANSAS MEN'S BASKETBALL AT ALLEN FIELDHOUSE

The Kansas Athletics Department today announced that it is lowering prices on many season tickets for the first time since after the 2008-09 season. Feedback from fans as well as market research has shown that the price and seat location value from the past few seasons have not been aligned.

For the 2020-21 season, Allen Fieldhouse will expand from three to eight pricing tiers, including four tiers that are lower than any season ticket price from last season. This new structure will lower the cost of season tickets for almost 45 percent of Allen Fieldhouse season ticket holders from last year. Additionally, as a proactive measure for Kansas Jayhawk basketball fans that are and will continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new season ticket price of only $500 has been introduced for the upcoming season.

“Our priority is to keep Allen Fieldhouse as the best homecourt advantage and we cannot do that without our fans,” said Director of Athletics Jeff Long. “We have heard the concerns of some fans that our prices have increased to a level some struggle to meet, and given the economic conditions created by COVID-19, we felt it was a good time to reduce some prices and create more options for our loyal fans. Simply put, we know many of our fans will be struggling when we emerge from this pandemic and we needed to create a more affordable experience or we could risk losing the incredible home court advantage that has made Allen Fieldhouse the best college basketball venue for decades.”

Allen Fieldhouse has long been one of the highest demanded places to watch a basketball game, which is evident by selling out 306 consecutive games dating back to the 2001-02 season. Kansas Basketball is something that draws generations together for one common purpose, cheering the Jayhawks onto victory, and that bond has never been needed more than now.

“Our fans are the best in the country and we have been fortunate to see Allen Fieldhouse sold-out for every game during our 17-seasons here,” said Head Coach Bill Self. “It is unfortunate to see how this pandemic has hit so many, so hard, but hopefully the addition of tiers and lower ticket prices will allow our fans to enjoy Kansas basketball together again soon. All of you have helped create the best home court advantage in college basketball. We look forward to seeing you in Allen Fieldhouse this winter.”

the new pricing structure, is the introduction of a $500 season ticket, which will cost purchasers $475 less than they paid for the lowest priced ticket last season.

“We felt it was important to create a dramatically reduced base line season ticket as an option for our renewing season ticket holders that are experiencing significant financial stress,” said Long. “Additionally, we think it will be an attractive price point for fans that want to become season ticket holders for the first time or are ready to become a holder again.”

The price and seat location values have been updated to reduce the price gap between most tiers. Last season the smallest gap in pricing was $300 dollars, now the difference between tiers two through eight is as little as $125.

Fans interested in buying season tickets or learning more about the new tier structure can visit www.kuathletics.com/mbbtiers for more details. On this webpage, fans can find answers to their questions as well as see a detailed map. Additionally, fans who want to support the Williams Education Fund to be eligible to purchase season tickets can do so with a donation for as low as $100. Williams Education Fund pledges and ticket orders are due by June 30 in order to participate in the online Select-A-Seat process July 13.

What is the best way to navigate this board?

I've been a member here for years, but seldom visited the site. I found it too overwhelming with the high activity and some threads being hundreds of pages deep. But I'm leaving the more modest confines of CycloneReport where there was a single board with an activity level low enough you can read or at least scan every post. Not so on this site.

So how do folks deal with the mass of posts on this site? Do you say go to the specific board of interest and just dwell on topics there?

I've tried just checking out recent posts, but that is kind of all over the place. I'm looking for a plan of attack.

When done reading a thread, I'd also like to know the best way to jump back to the recent posts or the specific message board. On CycloneReport there is a Return to Message button, which take you back to the message list and mark the open thread as read. Using the back button doesn't mark the thread as read. I think that aspect is similar on this board, but there is no Return to Message List button. It seems it takes multiple clicks to get back to the list. So how do folks navigate such that threads are marked as read when you leave them?

***Resident Evil 3 Mafia Thread***

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Raccoon City! In the middle of a massive plague(hey, that sounds familiar) called the T-Virus, the city is also unknowingly fighting for power between the evil Umbrella Corporation and the S.T.A.R.S unit of the Raccoon City police force. Which side of the 3 will come out with control of the city? Lets find out.

Mafia – Kills on odd number nights(Kills every night once the zombies are eliminated)
Nikolai Zinoviev
– He is the main human villain in the game and represents Umbrella Corp’s dark side. He will have 1 instakill that dies with him.
Nemesis – Nemesis was created to target certain individuals, and in this game his main targets are Brad and Jill who are former members of the police department. If he kills both then he will gain an instakill. Nemesis will be the one making the nightly kills for the mafia. Nemesis is not the person who has to send in the kill.
The rest of the mafia will be made up of regular Umbrella Corp soldiers.

Mafia members cannot be infected. If a zombie attempts to infect a mafia member that mafia member will die. If a zombie tries to infect Nemesis then a random zombie will be killed.

Zombies – Infects even numbered nights

Original Zombie – Raccoon City is also dealing with a massive infection with a disease known as the T-Virus, which causes people to turn into zombies. One person will start as a zombie and will infect every other night. Since it’s tough to tell if the zombies are actually dead or not in the game the original zombie will be immune to 1 night kill. Once the original zombie dies the infection will stop.

Innos
Jill Valentine
– A former cop as well as umbrella corps biggest enemy. She will have 1 invest to use whenever she like and a nightly kill. If she takes out both Nemesis and Nicholai she will gain an insta kill. If infected she will die.
Carlos Oliviera – A member of Umbrella corp but doesn’t know about the evils behind them. His goal is to try and stop the infection. Starting night 2 he can guess who the original zombie is and if he guesses right the original zombie will die, killing the infection. However, if he visits Nemesis he will be killed immediately. If infected he will join the zombies.
Tyrell Patrick – Also a good member of umbrella corp. He works as a monitor for the UC, which means he specializes in security cameras and the likes. He will be able to visit one person each night and find out who visits them, but will not know the persons role. He cannot visit the same person on consecutive nights. If infected he will no longer be able to use his abilities but he will join the zombies. Tyrell can visit Nemesis and survive since his work allows him to stay a distance away from others.
Dr. Bard – He is a doctor working on a vaccine for the T-Virus. He will have one heal per night and will protect from both infections and mafia kills, but never the same person back to back nights. Since he is knowledgeable enough to heal himself he cannot be infected but can be killed by the mafia. If he visits Nemesis he will be killed.
Brad Vickers – A member of the police force in Raccoon City. He is the detective in this game and will get one investigation per night. Like Carlos, if he visits Nemesis he will be killed and if infected he will join the zombies but will lose his abilities.
Mikhail Viktor – Another UC member, and while it’s not clear where his morals lie, he does appear to have a better moral compass than Nikolai. If attacked by Nemesis he will pull the pin on a grenade, killing both himself and Nemesis. If infected he will joins the zombies and loses his abilities.

Extras:
Chuckie Doll
– The inno protection item. It must be passed every night and it will protect from both infections and mafia kills. If an infected person or a mafia member gets the doll it will be destroyed.

Hidden Perks – Since part of Resident Evil involves exploring every area you can find for ammo and other supplies, it feels right that we have a few hidden perks throughout the game. There will be 4 of them and to keep from going back to the spam for the perk days I won’t say which post numbers they are. To give them a chance to be used I put them through the first 1000 posts. That’s the only clue I’ll give. I will announce at the end of the day if someone received a hidden perk but I won’t give away who or what they got, and someone who got a hidden perk can reveal if they choose to. There is one item that is very strong hidden that's better than the other 3 as well. Its nothing that will break the game but it will help whichever side gets it by quite a bit.

I only used the three trilogies in my responses, as I know them "best"
1) original
2) Leia/Han
3) Han Solo
4) JarJar Binks (go ahead and hate me)
5) Finn
6) Luke/Leia/Han (they started it all...)
7) Poe/Finn
8) R2D2 (although I DO like the droid in the Mandalorian)
9) Qui-Gon Jinn (because...Liam Neeson)
10) Green (I'm unfamiliar with the distinctions...I just like green!)
11) Definitely light side
12) Kylo Ren
13) the storm trooper portrayed by Daniel Craig :D
14) That giant heap of garbage better known as the Millennium Falcon
15) General Leia Organa (I think a piece of me went with Carrie)
16) Carrie Fisher - despite her issues, she was one hell of a woman

Fun times - "I don't get paid to work"

The company I work for has a small crew of people who do data entry/data cleanup work for us. It's not a difficult job but it is tedious. Most are folks who want to earn a few dollars when they can - they don't have scheduled hours. As long as they're not going over 40 hours we don't care how much they work.

The manager of that group was comparing invoices to output and there are two people who are far below the output of the others (I'm talking 5-10X less than average). The manager discussed it with one person and she said her toddler has been at home with no babysitter and hasn't been able to get anything done. When asked about the invoice she sheepishly said she has babysitting arrangements now and will do better, and offered to revise the invoice without being asked.

The other person claims we're straight up wrong and that she's done far more than it says. That's a tough argument to make because we track everything down to the click in the system. Lots of denials and blame shifting before the evidence was even shown to her. The evidence was put in front of her and she states:

"I don't get paid to work, I get paid to think. I don't care what your numbers say."

You're right, you don't get paid to work. Your invoice makes that pretty clear. Here's your final invoice paid in full. Account terminated.
