Stop!

I wish everyone would stop beating up Robert Jones. Sometimes I feel like I am not watching the same game as half the people on here.
I understand he is in an offensive "slump". I also understand that some of those "bunnies" weren't really that easy. Let's not forget Gabe and Grill's offensive slumps that lasted games upon games. TJ had faith in them that they would come around, as it appears he also does for Jones. But, even when he is missing the "bunnies" I love his aggression. He is keeping the other team honest is covering our big men.
But I truly do not understand the ragging of his defense! Do you not see the multiple responsibilities he takes on. Top of the key, underneath the bucket, weak side and baseline! He is hustling to cover EVERY possession. He is blocking out EVERY possession. He is getting down the court EVERY possession. When a team plays this level of aggressive defense, getting beat is the risk. And every player on the court gets beat every game, but not more often than we force the turnovers!
Let's be kind and appreciate every member of our team...... as TJ does.
Robert Jones still has big games to come! But what he is contributing in the mean time I appreciate!

Dancing with myself (songs you only listen to alone)

I have a weird mix of musical tastes that span a very wide variety of genres. At any rate, I have a bunch of songs that only I listen to when alone, I suppose because I think others would think it was strange or out of character. This was one that brought this thread to mind. I just love her voice and the overall sound.

***Big 12 Preseeds (Mon.)/Brackets (Wed.)***

Preseeds for the Big 12 Championship are scheduled to be released on Monday, with brackets to follow on Wednesday.

Seeding is done by a conference-appointed panel. Top 8 at each weight will be seeded, with the rest drawn in to the bracket. Bracket draws are done behind closed doors, from what I can tell.

Seeds and brackets are subject to change until Friday night, if there are scratches/replacements between now and then.

Fundamentally Inept Right Now

Right now I think it's fair to start to question the staff's ability to recognize (repetitive) fundamental flaws and make adjustments, both at the individual and team level. The number of things this team does, game in and game out, that costs it games are mind-boggling.

1. No offensive game plan. I think most of us have a realistic view point when it comes to having explosive athleticism and the problems that creates. It also doesn't help when, in some cases, guys are missing wide open looks. With that said, we often come down the court and waste 15 seconds cycling and the ball 6 feet beyond the arc. This causes a repetitive issue of having to jack up crap shots late in the shot clock. There should be a greater focus on getting the ball up the court quicker and looking to initiative meaningful ball movement, as in things that will lead to baskets or open looks. Early in the season guys were cutting to the basket, we looked run the offense through Osun (was better today but was compromised by fouls/being dinged up), and or driving in and kicking out. We are basically maximizing our natural deficiencies by making us (as a team) extremely easy to guard.

2. Over-helping on defense. This has been a constant issue and one I do not understand. Time and time again we are either play good defense and giving help when it's not needed, or having 3 guys collapse to a ball handlers in the lane. It's leading to defensive meltdowns and wide open shooters. It's a team-wide issue but the biggest offender is Holmes. He has absolutely no idea what he is doing defensively and over-helps on nearly every possession. I think at least half of our defensive breakdowns could be directly attributed to him. It's been so pervasive and has gone on so long that it appears the staff isn't addressing it. If they are guys like Holmes need to be benched for it. It's hard to win when guys have wide open corner 3s on every possession.

3. Staff's inability to influence outcomes within games. At some point it's hard to shrug off being constantly outplayed and out coached in every 2nd half. From questionable substitutions, not anticipating opponent adjustments, to not utilizing timeouts to manage game flow, this team is a constant second half trainwreck. From the outside coaches make little in the way of noticeable adjustments. The only 'adjustment' I noticeably see is the occasional switch to zone, a defense we are futile at running.

Basically this team looks like a ship without a rudder, one floating aimlessly at sea. At some point the staff needs to make some philosophical adjustments to get this team on track. What we are seeing is will beyond individuals struggling. Today epitomized most of what we've been seeing over the last 5 to 6 games.

Big 12 Tournament: Anyone Could Win

With the Big 12 Men's Basketball tournament just a month and 2 days away, I have never seen the Big 12 so open. I mean on any given night Iowa State could win it, Texas, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State and even TCU could win it. There's a chance Iowa State could be beaten the first round and still be a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. So my question is this: Is it better to win it all and then be gassed for the NCAA tournament, or bow out early and get rested and healed up before the BIG tourney?

Big 12 MBB All-Session giveaway

Greetings all,

I had a very generous Cyclone reach out to donate two all-session tickets to the men's basketball tournament next week. Rather than just auction these off to the highest bidder with proceeds to We Will, the donor preferred these be given to a parent/child combo or at least to create unique experience for those involved. I think it's an incredibly kind gesture and happy to help facilitate. If those who are selected as the winning entry want to contribute within their means to We Will, even better. :)

Please post below what you may plan to do with these tickets and your story of why it would be meaningful for you. Our team at CF will select a winning entry by Friday at 10am. Go Cyclones!
