On That Note: Walk (And Run!) on the Wild Side

Welcome back to “On That Note,” CF’s music-exploration series, hosted by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.

For this week’s segment, as a loose tie-in to baseball season and its terminology, we’re grooving to songs with forms of the words “run” and “walk.”

RULE: IT MUST BE PART OF THE TITLE (lyrics-only does NOT qualify).

(Song doesn’t have to be baseball-related, that’s purely an indirect seasonal connection.)

I’ll post one in each category to get us off-and-running/walking.

Recruiting: 'This feels like home,' an interview with latest Iowa State commit Cam Smith

Talked to Cam Smith after he announced his commitment this morning. Hope you all enjoy:

The reason you won't find Wendy's in Europe

Just a fascinating story of how a multi billion dollar corporation found out how stubborn a Dutchman can be. I come from strong Dutch stock, so this tale comes as little surprise, given some of the interactions I've had with fellow countrymen. Stubbornness is a way of life.

RECRUITING: Jeremiah Williams and Hason Ward to visit this weekend

Top 100 college RBs of the last 60 years [ESPN+]

Bill Connelly of ESPN ranked the Top 100 RBs since the end of the one-platoon era in the 1960s.

41. Troy Davis, Iowa State

Years: 1994-96
Career stats: 4,382 rushing yards (5.6), 258 receiving yards (7.8), 37 TDs

Imagine how difficult it must have been to be the only big-time player on a team that would win just five games in two seasons. Opponents had to prepare to stop you and only you. Now imagine rushing for more than 2,000 yards and finishing in the Heisman top five twice on those teams. That's what Troy Davis did.

Looking at the list, I imagine Breece was close but just outside the top 100.

Dad Grass

Has anyone here used any of the Dad Grass products? I just stumbled upon their info via a podcast and was curious. For those that don't know, it's a CBD product that is federally legal. They have both pre-rolled joints and tinctures. Anyway, I'm mostly curious how it does with pain management. I'd much prefer to use daily CBD than to mess around with ibuprofen. It definitely sounds appealing and the reviews I've seen are glowing, but I wanted to see if anyone here has personal experience with it,

Postseason bball replays on YT

Does anybody know what the deal with the lack of full game replays on YouTube for the LSU and Wisky game in particular and tournament games in general?

They seem to be stricter with copyright restrictions for the NCAA tournament than other games, including bowl games. I've seen the NCAA has released certain games on YT after the tournament completed, but not ours.

There's full game replays for pretty much every big ISU game for the last 5 years or so on YouTube. It drives me crazy that I can't watch a full game replay for our sweet 16 run on YouTube since I cut the cord.

Calling All Gram Weenies

Because I’m quickly becoming one of you as I age. Never was one who was going to forgo a trowel and use a stick to dig my cathole or cut my toothbrush handle off and tie the head to my finger with floss, but here I am. I bought into compressed towels and water bottle bidets a few years ago. I am not using an expensive pad, mostly Klymit and Therm-a-rest. My tents are the Dan Durston X-Mid 1 and 2, depending obviously. My question is about packs. I currently am using the Granite Gear Crown 2 which I really like so far. But apparently I can do better.
So my question comes down to whether the exotic fabrics ( Gossamer Gear, Hyperlite, Zpacks, Lite AF, etc) are worth the money. I’m mainly concerned about the durability aspect. I don’t want to lay out that kind of money every 2,3, or 4 years. This whole post may be a fool’s errand since I’m not sure how long the cuben fiber stuff had been around. TIA

Should we have a for Sale?

I have thought about this a lot. I have noticed several posts over the years about things for sale other than tickets. I have also wanted to buy things myself, especially things related to ISU, being memorabilia, tailgate supplies, tailgate vehicles, clothing etc.

Do others think we should/could have an Iowa State for sale forum. While we could also have a general for sale forum, but that could get out of control and there are plenty of places to sell that stuff, keeping things related to ISU and ISU events it might be helpful. Having the concentration of ISU fans here, means it would be a great place to buy, sell and trade ISU gear.

It was just a thought and I wanted to get some input here and maybe see what @ChrisMWilliams thinks about adding such a thing? Maybe I am way out in left field.

RECRUITING: '24 guard Daniel Freitag sees good fit with Iowa State

Caught up with the high-scoring sophomore this morning.

Why won't Jamie Pollard schedule any P5 schools other than Iowa?

I've always thought our schedule was boring. I know we have Iowa in-state, which takes up a non-conference game; however, every single year it's Iowa, FCS opponent (80% of the time UNI) and then a Mountain West/Sun Belt/MAC team. I took a look at all the scheduled non-conference games for each of the 8 schools remaining in the Big 12 and honestly, was beyond frustrated seeing it. I can't be the only one who thinks this right?

Ref Attacked After the Buzzer

This is really rough to watch. After the game was over at this church rec league it appears that players and coaches came off the bench to confront one of the refs. The ref required 30 stiches. It should be pretty easy for police to identify the attackers, and I hope that some sort of punishment occurs. I feel bad for the ref as he's in a no-win situation, as he cannot hit an underaged kid until he's first struck by them. Just sad.

If there are 45-50 seconds to go (30 seconds on the shot clock), your team is down 1-2 points, and the other team has the ball, do you foul or defend?

I'm generally a defend guy, but after seeing this situation happen a number of times in the tourney and the offensive team score in almost all circumstances, I thought it was worth asking the question.

USFL will eliminate 1st Down Chain, use technology

I'm sure there will be human spotting still, but no need to "measure."
