Breece Hall Article ESPN+

Nice article on Breece indicating that he should be RB1 selected in the draft.

For those without ESPN+, they indicate his [BackCAST] stats coming out of college are comparable to Dalvin Cook and LaDamian Tomlinson.

Hopefully he will break the 50 year first round drought of ISU players.

KXNO Sports Fanatics

Does anybody know if CW is still a host of this show or just an occasional guest? I know it’s on 3-6 and I can’t tune in for the entire time but it seems like he’s never on. I like to listen to the pods on iHeart but they don’t seem to offer the entire show. Just 1 or 2 hours at random the next day. It’s apparently somewhat of a running joke why he’s not there but I’m not sure if he’s considered a regular host or not. It seems to lean pretty Hawkeye heavy whenever I can catch it. So maybe it’s just a Hawk show now?

Campanile / central campus movie sighting - "Moon Shot"

We are watching a new movie on HBO max tonight called "Moon Shot"and about 14 minutes in we saw this flyby of their made up university, and we are 99% sure it is ISU central campus!

Pretty random for this movie, which was mostly shot in Georgia based on our subsequent research.

Anyone know the connection? Any other good random campus sightings in movies or shows? 20220408_212020.jpg

Pots & Pans

We are in the market for some new pots and pans in our kitchen.
Our current set consists of 3 different sized frying pans, 3 sauce pans, and 2 pots. The ones I’m looking to replace are the two main frying pans. Food has really begun to stick to the non-stick pans as the coating is gone and I also hate that we have probably injested most of those chemicals. I like the set as they can be thrown in the dishwasher without a thought.
Was wondering if anybody has anything they really love. Looking for suggestions for something that is fairly easy to clean.
Want to get the pulse of Cyclonefanatic for this topic because like shopping for a bed this is something you use pretty much every day, just not as long.

Friday OT #2 - Help You Find Your Talent

We might have done this one in the past, but I'm not sure. This one came up this week in our household.

Do you have any obscure hidden talents? Ones that, you may be best friends with someone or live with someone for years, and they wouldn't know?

I had been married to my husband for maybe 12 years before he realized that I am a savant at Dr. Mario on old-school Nintendo. If @Mr Janny gives me one quarter at an arcade and there's Dr. Mario there, I'll still be playing an hour later when he comes back to check on me. It's not useful; in fact, it's pretty esoteric. But I am just really good at it.

What are yours?

Friday OT #1 - Working for the Weekend

Thank you to @ruxCYtable for this question! I'm always so grateful for topic suggestions.

Job interview stories. Could be good, bad or indifferent. OR an unusual or funny conversation with a new employer.

I'm going to let him do his story. I can tell an unusual conversation with a new(-ish) employer, though.

We have several managers in our department. I work with mine a lot, and just occasionally with the others - some more than others. I was at my desk doing something but listening to rap on my headphones at the same time (I think it was Pandora at the time, so it was up on my second monitor visible). One of the managers with whom I had rarely worked and only seldomly interacted came up behind me to ask me a question.

Him: "Angie, how does this... what are you listening to there?"
Me: "Oh... um, J. Cole. He's a rapper."
Him: "You don't... seem like you'd be a rap fan?"
Me: "Yeah, always have been!"
Him: "Can you bust off some lyrics for me right now?"
Me: "I can... but better not. I'd like to not get fired."

It was a unique conversation, for certain! What are yours?

Hoyt Sherman Place

I'm going to be buying tickets for a show there that go on sale at 10.00a. I was looking at the seats in the presale last night but didn't have the code to buy. We've never been there. There were a lot of seats still available at the end of the presale, and I was wondering if anyone can advise us as to whether it would be best to sit in the first couple of rows of the balcony or around the 12-15th row downstairs (which the seat guide says are directly below the front row of the balcony). I doubt there will be a lot of people standing during the concert as it's a group of bands from the 60s.

When making suggestions, please take into account the fact that I am very short, and the wall in front of the seats in the balcony looks really tall in the pictures.

TIA!

2022 Masters

I know there is an all encompassing golf season thread, so if this should be merged into that, I’ll let the mods decide. I feel The Masters deserves it’s own thread, and I didn’t see another.

From a golf pick ‘em perspective (I’m sure some out there have seen this), here are my guys this year:

1. Jon Rahm
2. Cam Smith
3. Tony Finau
4. Paul Casey (makes me want to vomit)
5. Webb Simpson
6. Gary Woodland
7-9. Kevin Kisner

At the end of the day, the best 5 are my scoring team in a pool I’m in with some buddies. Anyone else doing this?

ESPN+ coverage about the start.

U-Haul vs Moving Company

Anyone complete a multi state move recently? Seems like a moving company (loading and driving and not packing) would be 3-4x the cost of me just driving myself and hiring guys on either end to load and unload.

Obviously I gotta drive myself if I choose the U-Haul but the costs are trending in the direction for me to suck it up and do the many hour drive.

It's a 2 bedroom to a 1+den move. So nothing super crazy in amount of stuff.

Any drawbacks either way besides money?

The GS Warriors are the 3rd most successful franchise in NBA history

based on championship appearances (11) and wins (6). Bulls tied with 6 wins. That blows my mind. I guess I am stuck thinking of them as the garbage team they were when I was growing up. I only watch a few playoff games here and there, so there's reason I'm so ill informed. I also had no idea exactly how dominant boston and L.A. have been. Kind of wish the NBA only had a best of 3 series instead of best of 7.

Does Dekkers being a lefty affect how people may perceive his potential?

It sound ridiculous at first glance, but I think it’s something that’s legit to bring up. I think it largely goes unspoken and it’s understandable why.

But the reality is that there’s been very few leftys in recent years that have thrived at the collegiate or pro level. Tua is the only example I can think of from recent years. Otherwise you have to go back to your Tim Tebow’s of the world. (in which case, he almost shouldn’t count due to his unique style)

Does anyone else get stuck on thinking about this? I understand it definitely is unfair to the kid to judge him based on that trait. But there are significant factors in having a left handed QB you have to adjust for. The spin of the ball is the opposite, the entire offensive line essentially flips.

Personally I am pretty excited for Dekkers this year. But I can’t help but feel slightly uneasy about him, just due to previous track record on lefty’s in general. It almost feels like it bleeds into how I evaluate him as a player.
