Zeb Noland transferring

You could argue the inverse as well. Do you really want someone to be hanging around the team (possibly draining some resources) who doesn't want to be there?

If I wanted out of something like that (not that I've ever been in that situation), I'd much prefer to cut ties and be don with it, rather than hang around and have to fake enthusiasm.
Zeb wasn't coming back from this and he knew it. The offense is just different with Brock and it's obvious Zeb's skill set doesn't work the way Brock's does. I'm inclined to believe the inverse that you describe and that every party benefits from the departure if it happens now. Team over self can also mean stepping away.

Maybe, just maybe, we should let a 20 yo kid do what he thinks is best for his future.

Maybe, just maybe, his teammates are wishing him the best and understand he is in a tough spot.

Maybe, just maybe, the coaching staff thinks this is best for Zeb and want him to be as successful as he can be.

Do I wish he was staying for depth? Of course. But in the end, he's a decent young man who wants to play football. Thanks for being a Cyclone, Zeb, even if it didn't work out as well as we all hoped.

I think it's disappointing when a player quits mid-season. I've never been in camp Zeb, But I figured if Purdy needed a break, that Zeb would still get in over Kempt. Obviously I was wrong on that.

I can't blame him for leaving now, in his own best interest, but I'm still pretty disappointed.

In a perfect world I would have prefered he stick with the team through end of semester just in case we need him to play. I do get the transfer at the semester thing, can enroll somewhere else and get acclimated to a new school environment and practice with new team in the spring. The way he is doing it allows him to transfer at the semester and concentrate now on where to go which I think doing at semester would be kind of daunting with all of the Div I coaches concentrating on game to game prep.

Although, tweet from a few weeks ago was interesting.

Eh. It is possible to be supportive of a friend and still want to play. He had an opportunity to grab the starting job here and couldn't do it,a nd when Purdy took off he saw the writing on the wall. It happens. Best of luck to him wherever he goes. Always seemed like a good kid.

His Dad is a GA HS coach, they know about recruitment and transferring, and would be aware of all the details here.
  • It may simplify making this semester "a wash" for coursework since last Friday was last day to drop/withdraw.
  • If he isn't going to compete, then by guaranteeing no more snaps means increased possibility a 2nd redshirt since just a few snaps in 5th game.
  • Kempt is back so not leaving Purdy w/o back-up
  • Time to weigh options, "interview" other programs. Avoid "tampering" etc if un-enrolled?
  • Good luck, no animosity. Only one NCAA college career!

Thanks for the giving this season a try, Zeb.

Assuming he sticks with it, he'll do a lot better in a different offense imo. On a related note, I can't wait to see Mitchell and Dean. A QB that can run is a boost to a team with an inconsistent OL.

The new redshirt rule is a big benefit to development programs.

The more I think about it the more I get it. Being a D1 athlete is a full time commitment. If he has moved on mentally, there's no great reason to have him around the team. Allow him to put his full focus elsewhere. Allowing him to avoid the risk of injury in practice. If it's time to go it is time to go-- no reason to delay it.

I never said it was negative, just interesting. Nothing more nothing less.

Kempt is the backup while he continues to develop his coaching skills for when he becomes the QB coach on staff next year and AG gets the OC duties. From a scheme standpoint Moore and Mitchel are a better fit anyway for the future. Less to change if an injury happens. In the end it all works out better anyway. One less guy in the way for Mitchell to worry about and transfer himself.
