Some names I think Jamie should look at.
1- Jeff Hornacek (duh)
2- Brad Underwood (Stephen F. Austin) - Former Kansas St. player. He's been at Stephen F. Austin for 2 years and has a 61-8 record with 2 NCAA appearances. I would bet that Kansas St. will want him to become their next coach, would be funny if Iowa State grabbed him before K-St. could. Up-tempo style would favor Iowa State's players. Stephen F. Austin was 1st in assists, 5th in Field Goal percentage, 9th in points scored. Would be a great hire but him being a former Kansas St. player could block the deal.
3- Bryce Drew (Valpo) - would need a big offer for him to come here. He's their version of Fred. Coached 4 years and has gone to 2 NCAA tournaments. His brother is the coach of Baylor, who knows?...
4- Steve Masiello (Manhattan) - Up and coming coach. He was suppose to go to South Florida but didn't have his degree or something like that so he's still at Manhattan. Back to back NCAA appearances. Assistant for Rick Pitino back in the day.
5- Tommy Amaker (Harvard) - meh, but better than bringing Floyd back IMO. He's done great at Harvard and might want to go to a bigger basketball school, bigger pay, less academic requirements. He didn't do very good at Michigan though but I guess there's worse...
Andrew Toole out of Robert Morris might be another interesting name. Young coach with a lot of potential.
- Larry Eustachy (Colorado St.) - Unpopular name on this list, but there are worse candidates out there. Obvious Iowa State connection. S Miss struggled mostly with him there. Colorado St. has an NCAA and NIT appearance since then. Can't see it but you never know.
- Frank Martin (S Carolina) - Cyclone fans know who he is. Complete opposite of Fred as far as coaching style. Not sure if he would get along with Pollard. 5 years ago people would be more welcoming to the hire. Has failed at S Carolina but maybe he can bring what he did at K-St? Doubt it.
Not the greatest list of candidates but this late in the game and Iowa State, it's unlikely ISU will hire a proven, current P5 coach. It would be pretty shocking honestly.
