The style a
of play is the biggest factor. We are fun to watch.
And this is why I want a coach that will continue that style of play. I love watching us play.

Exactly. Everyone who thinks Iowa State Basketball can be what it was without Hoiberg has either got some serious over confidence or isn't really in touch with reality.
Hoiberg put us back on the map. He knows this and that's why the decision is going to be a tough one for him. He cares about us, but at the same time he knows he's worth more.
All we can do is offer him $4-5 million per year and extend his NBA buyout to $4-5 million and just hope that he bites and recommits.
You guys are delusional. Fred has done a great job. But you act like we have just won several National Championships under him.
Money isn't the issue. Fred is being paid very well and would likely get even more raises. At the same time he is 42 years old and has been a Head Coach for 5 years. His best Tourney team was 2 years ago that went to the Sweet Sixteen. Your suggestion of paying $4 million to $5 million for a coach who has not won a National Championship is a bit ridiculous. You are talking about paying Fred more than Tom Izzo and others that have won national championships?
It seems that Fred wants to go to the NBA. If that is his wish, so be it.

If we can land Hornacek somehow that will be about as happy as I can get if Fred leaves.

You, my friend, are the one who is delusional. Hoiberg's salary is not about comparing what he's worth to the market. His salary should be about what he's worth to us. Name another coach right now with the talent, the story and the ability to do what he has done at Iowa State, and do it for his current salary of $2 million. See you back here in about never.
I hope you guys aren't managers, because you would not be great ones. You pay for talent and potential of talent when you have a chance. You don't play hard ball with the employee who brings in 50% of your business and if you lose him just over confidently think you'll still have the same company. You pay those people what is deserving for your company and go back to focusing on the people who aren't performing.

He should be paid "what he is worth to us"? What does that even mean? This is delusional fanboy talk if I have ever seen it. Fred gunna get paid if he stays or goes, I wouldn't worry about his compensation.
I think CFH has done an outstanding job, but I don't see us increasing his pay by $2M+ a year. How is Jamie going to pay those dollars. It's nice to think TV money is endless, but that isn't the case. To fund that season ticket sales would need to go up by $200 per ticket.
I also think ISU fans and Iowans would be highly critical of our basketball coach making that much money.
However, most important, I don't this is about the money for CFH. I think he came to ISU because that was the best way for him to get coaching experience and prepare him for an NBA HC job. I don't feel he wants to be a coaching lifer. He's been at ISU 5 years. Maybe he coaches in the NBA 5 years, then he takes a job in an NBA front office or retires.
He should be paid "what he is worth to us"? What does that even mean? This is delusional fanboy talk if I have ever seen it. Fred gunna get paid if he stays or goes, I wouldn't worry about his compensation.
So if its not about the money, I should expect the Bulls to pay Fred the same as what he makes at ISU? If money doesn't matter they shouldn't need to pay him any extra.
Yes the should because he would be coaching more than twice as many regular season games plus up to up to 5 series of 7 games in post season. Even making it to the post season doesn't guarantee an NBA coach will be retained. A few years ago George Karl was the NBA coach of the year when with the Denver Nuggets then shortly after was fired.
I don't think it is about money. If it was, Fred probably would have taken some other offers more seriously. If it is about money, then we simply can't compete so let's just leave it at that.
