WWJD- What Will Jamie Do?

How so? Do you actually have any proof of that? Him delaying a decision a week or two kills recruiting? Our inability to get a big man transfer so far has little to do with Hoiberg and everything to do with a lack of playing time. 5th year transfers aren't looking to come off the bench.

The recruitment of 2016 guys is far from over. It's not like they have a deadline this week to make a decisions. They have plenty of time to wait to see what Hoiberg does and wait to see who the next coach is (if there is one).

Do you actually know enough about recruiting to KNOW that this is killing our chances with players, or are you just repeating the complaint you've heard from other posters? Have you talked to recruits to know first hand that this is hurting out chances with them?

FWIW, from Randy Pete...

Recruiting is in a holding pattern, and maybe that's putting it nicely. One-and-done graduate target Tyler Harris last week picked Auburn over Hoiberg's offer.
Michigan grad transfer Max Bielfeldt has visited Nebraska and Indiana since touring the Iowa State campus on April 25.

"Iowa State is definitely still on my list," Bielfeldt told The Register on Tuesday. "It's still one of my really good options."
He said he'd like to decide this week, if possible.
"Waiting to see what's going on with coach Hoiberg is part of it," he said. "It's tough to go someplace for one year with a coaching change. If there's a change — it would depend on who comes in. Iowa State is going to be good next year, no matter what, though."
Two scholarships are available for next season. Six are available for 2016-17, if no one on the current roster leaves. And that's always a possibility.

The leak of ISU being interested in Hornacek from a week or two ago wasn't an accident. It may have been ***-covering by JP, but I think it means they are at least weighing his interest.

Or it could have been Hornecek (his agent) leaking it too. Get the Suns to offer an extension. This is more likely IMO as the writer was on the NBA beat and would have more connections to Hornecek than ISU.

I have searched high and low and can not find where Archie Miller makes $2 million per year at Dayton. Please link it.

Dayton doesn't have to disclose contract details. It's all speculation but usually ESPN, SI, etc aren't too far off. He was making 700k a year before the extension this spring and it was rumored that he would more than double his salary so do the math. Even if he only doubled his current deal we still aren't(can't) going to double his salary to 2.8 million like you claimed.

He made $700k 2 years ago and the rumors were it was tripled. He wasn't interested in the Florida job, why would Iowa State interest him?

We might as well ask the question but he isn't coming here.

No link? Just rumors......and no link to even the rumors? Not sure what Florida was offering. But Basketball is a secondary sport at Florida and the SEC is not a very good conference at all except for Kentucky. Basketball is an afterthought there.

Mike White signed a 6 year deal worth an average of $2 million per year. Fred makes more than that.

Hornacek, right now, is the only name that would make the fan base feel even remotely better about this. From reading some stuff online, it sounds like his coaching style and demeanor are actually a decent amount like Fred's. On one of the articles about him potentially coming back here, some of the comments by Suns fans indicate that they wouldn't blame him at all and that he SHOULD come back to Ames.

Seems like a long shot to me. Bring Hornacek on and keep TJ and as much of the rest of the staff as possible (I can't imagine he wouldn't make some changes), and the fan base will come around fairly quickly, IMO.

Get Hornacek, keep Otz at assistant. Otz would do it to, don't feel he would be slighted by it. (They're both ISU guys, need to make it work) Hornacek is on the hot seat next season anyway, plays in a tough conference with lower talented players.... Throw some $$$ at him. Keep our style of play like Hoibergs by bringing in Jeff, continue the recruiting of Otz as well.

i think it is very realistic to get Hornacek.

The links I had were that Archie Miller was making less than $700k per season.

Ha. We posted almost exactly the same thing at the same time. I'd love this.

I'm not going to spend any time searching to refute a ridiculous statement that Gregg Marshall and Archie Miller are legit candidates for Iowa State. Because they aren't.

Archie wouldn't even talk to Florida. For $12 million. That's all that needs to be said.

Oh no, that wasn't the statement, the statement was that we could DOUBLE these two coaches salaries.

It would be nice if USA Today would put a date on their stuff. I'm pretty sure that data is for the 2014/2015 season which just ended. Miller signed his new deal after the season ended.

It was dated. And that was for the 2014-15 season. Miller also got a contract extension in 2014 which extended him through the 2019 season. The 2015 deal extended Miller through the 2022 season.

With Hoiberg this is an NBA thing, NOT a money thing!!! The sooner some of you get that through you heads that faster you'll be able to correctly process the events that are taking place right now. Once you've caught up, please come back and join the conversation with the rest of us.

But as an AD wouldnt you like to be able to say we maxed out all assets that we could offer a basketball coach and that wasnt what our coach wanted but i gave it my all even though i knew what our current coach wanted to do but i still offered....did everything i could to change his mind including asking our biggest donors to go all in for the better of the program and he still said no. I would much rather hear that than well i knew he wasnt gonna stay so i didnt bother.

.... As I've said for a month, he hasn't been promised the job, he was brought in to provide continuity between staffs if a coaching change was made (remember, these players are his recruits) and to be a candidate, nothing more or less....

If this is true, I take back any negative comment I made about the Washington coach. I guess there are a lot of people that knew what was going on months ago.

Nothing against TJ, but I was hoping that Fred had brought the program along to the point that we no longer have to hire assistants. Yes, Fred had never coached, but the program was almost dead when he arrived. We had nothing to lose and it payed off. Evidently for a few years anyway.

Wasn't aware of Gregg Marshall's salary. Was referring to Archie Miller's salary which was listed as being $652K for the 2015 season. That was the basis for my comment.

Some people are suggesting that we could pay Fred even more......possibly $5 million per year.
