WWJD- What Will Jamie Do?

Yep. We are being sold the tj thing right now. And I know that Many that run this site are friends with him and think he can be an equal to Fred. But I wish they'd realize that by billing him as the best option, they are really setting him up for trouble.

How so?

Fred is killing recruiting, by not coming out and saying one way or another, imo bush league

What is Fred really worth? Can we put a number on it? How much has the fan base grown in the last 5 years, how much extra is that worth to the AD? That is the number JP needs to walk into Fred's house with. Tell him how much he is worth to the university, make Fred realize what he is leaving. You don't have to pay him that number, but he needs to understand impact of his actions. Is his love for ISU greater than his dream of coaching in the NBA. If it is all true and he is going, the only way you are going to get him to change his mind is to make him fall in love with ISU again.

Rational people already know the answer to this question. It is "no".

He wouldn't have insisted for the "NBA out" clause in his contract that undoubtedly was used by rival coaches to recruit against him.

You really have to have you head in the sand to not see where his true aspirations lie. ISU is his #1 college coaching job, but the NBA is his ultimate coaching job.

Do you honestly think that those guys would not consider coming here when they can double or triple their salary and get a roster that has the potential to be a NC team?

Honestly, we have a better hand than that.

At first I thought this was a joke but I don't think it was.

Archie Miller makes $2 mil at Dayton and he loves it there and they love him. Gregg Marshall makes $3.3 mil at WSU and it the kingpin with no football program. Neither would even return our phone call.

Hornecek might be a little different. His seat is rumored to be a little warm and he only has 1 year left on his deal. And he makes $2 mil. Give him 5 years, $10 or $12 mil and he would at least have to consider it I'd guess (unless he is working on an extension from the Suns).

I've heard this 1 million times it seems in the last few days and I quite frankly disagree wholeheartedly. Fred has played everything close to the vest since he has been here and now wouldn't be the time to show his hand. People keep forgetting the Bulls still have a coach. If he is interested, there is nothing he can say. What if the Bulls decide they want someone else? If he isn't interested and he comes out and says as much right now people will expect him to do that each and every year.

Jamie has hired 2 head football coaches and 2 head men's basketball coaches at ISU. Only one of those has a winning record. A .250 batting average for an athletic director is pretty bad. If Fred does leave, he really needs to get this pick right.

How many coaches in Iowa State's history in those sports have winning records? Especially football. Pollard's job is much more than just hiring coaches. To completely ignore everything else he has done for the athletic department is ignorant.

If you think he's failed so bad with his hiring choices, who do you suggest he should have gotten instead of Chizik, McDermott, and Rhoads?

As much as I love Fred, we have gone to 1 Sweet Sixteen in his time here. We will survive without Fred. He breathed new life into our program. Next year we look great. But we will have some really big holes to fill when Niang, McKay, Long, are all gone.......and probably Monte Morris as well. I do not see all the replacements for those guys on our roster.

IMO, I think Fred feels that NOW is the best time. Cupboard is full for next year. He can live his NBA dream.

And I am not sure how you justify paying a coach like that with ISU's budget. We are actually paying Fred pretty well. And to justify even more money, we should not have been beaten by UAB in the opening round. Sorry. But ISU just does not have the available cash to throw around like a drunken sailor.

I have searched high and low and can not find where Archie Miller makes $2 million per year at Dayton. Please link it.

Maybe Otz is the next Ben Jacobsen. Maybe Otz is the next Brad Stevens. Both assistants who were hired from within after the head coach left. And Archie Miller was an assistant before being hired as HC of Dayton.

I'm hoping that TJ is our version of Bill Guthridge at UNC. Took over for a legend and went to 2 Final Fours in 3 years at the helm.

Seems pretty obvious that TJ is probably going to get handed the job, and those in the know are doing their best to sell us on this move.

It's nothing against TJ, but his resume isn't what you'd want to replace Hoiberg. I'm sure he's a great guy and obviously a good recruiter and basketball mind, but it's hard selling me on the idea that he's ready to be the head guy here.

Well, at least TJ hasn't shown the propensity to mysteriously turn his back on us.

How so? Do you actually have any proof of that? Him delaying a decision a week or two kills recruiting? Our inability to get a big man transfer so far has little to do with Hoiberg and everything to do with a lack of playing time. 5th year transfers aren't looking to come off the bench.

The recruitment of 2016 guys is far from over. It's not like they have a deadline this week to make a decisions. They have plenty of time to wait to see what Hoiberg does and wait to see who the next coach is (if there is one).

Do you actually know enough about recruiting to KNOW that this is killing our chances with players, or are you just repeating the complaint you've heard from other posters? Have you talked to recruits to know first hand that this is hurting out chances with them?

The leak of ISU being interested in Hornacek from a week or two ago wasn't an accident. It may have been ***-covering by JP, but I think it means they are at least weighing his interest.

He made $700k 2 years ago and the rumors were it was tripled. He wasn't interested in the Florida job, why would Iowa State interest him?

We might as well ask the question but he isn't coming here.

Look at the teams those guys were assistants on and look at TJ's teams, without Fred Hoiberg....he part of some really really lackluster teams. Why is TJ the one bright spot of the McD years that we want to bring back, he was recruiting on those teams that were full of Mo valley caliber players. Why do people only remember 1 or 2 years he coached here?

Jamie knew when hiring Fred that Fred had NBA aspirations. JP banked on Fred's love of ISU would keep him here longer than 5 years. We all should have been wary of that from the start and knew the ticking time bomb of Fred's love for the NBA would explode sooner than later on us.
