WWJD- What Will Jamie Do?

JP hasn't reached out to donors to pony up more money (much to some of their dismay). JP knows what Fred is looking for and knows that it isn't about money, though it certainly wouldn't have hurt to circle the money wagons.

Do you honestly think that those guys would not consider coming here when they can double or triple their salary and get a roster that has the potential to be a NC team?

Honestly, we have a better hand than that.

Lol. You're not serious right?

We have no hand. We've got 4 of kind right now with our team for next year and our only play is to go all in with that hand with TJ as the HC and try to do something amazing next year. That is the only play for me.

I think Otz is Option 5, but the most sure-thing option. Options 1 and 2 have to be somewhat long shots, just to gauge interest, and Options 3 or 4 have to be where Jamie most expects to land a HC.

There are people who act like we should be excited about our #5 choice...TJ getting the job will be ahumbling reality check for the ISU bball program.

Both come from better programs than ISU though, at least from a national perspective. Dayton has lived in the Sweet 16 lately and Wichita is a media darling. Both have more recent success as well. These guys could have nearly ANY job, I'd guess ISU wouldn't be on their radar.

No, it actually makes the most sense. He deserves far more credit than people know for game-prep and in-game changes during his first stint with Fred and most of the current roster is only here because of TJ. While I think we need to look at all options, he makes the most sense for both the near and long term future. He might not be the "sexy" hire, but he also provides the most consistency and prospects for a lengthy career.

I was just reading a Keith Murphy tweet that Fred honestly believes that if he were to leave ISU now it would be better than leaving later. And his dream is to coach in the NBA.

Also, the Timberwolves getting the top pick in the draft is huge. He would have young talent in Andrew Wiggins and likely Karl Anthony Towns to build on. That is a huge consideration.

I expect Jamie to get a good replacement for Fred. Looking at the comments he made, it is apparent that Jamie probably knew what was happening.

I personally think ISU should find out if $5,000,000 is enough to keep him coaching DI athletes.

Not saying you're wrong, but if this is the case, why did Otz come back in the first place?

This angers me. JP should at least see what the max he can pay Fred is and then slap it on the table. It could be enough to persuade Fred to stay at least a few more years.

People need to stop bashing TJ, another person that loves ISU. As I've said for a month, he hasn't been promised the job, he was brought in to provide continuity between staffs if a coaching change was made (remember, these players are his recruits) and to be a candidate, nothing more or less. His family loves Ames (remember his wife?) and the more people around here try to insult him and his motives, the more they're going to push away yet another potential coach.

Self-fulfilling prophecies are what some on here seem to live for.

Honestly. Archie Miller and Gregg Marshall are not coming here.

THIS. It's just my opinion but TJ would be great for us next year and I think he would be the players choice if Fred left. After next year, it's going to be a crapshoot no matter what. Better make as much hay as possible next season.

The assumption that this conversation hasn't happened between Fred and JP is mind-boggling. Of course they've discussed this, regardless of whether an official offer with an official number is on the table.

We do but you won't get many here to admit that.

*ISU plays in what many consider the deepest and most competitive league in the nation... the best conference.
*The Big XII has arguably the best group of coaches (with name recognition) in all of college basketball.
*ISU has the program rolling right now, a team ranked yearly in the Top 25, 4 straight NCAA Tournaments, 2 Big XII Tournament championships, the longest streak in school history of consecutive weekly rankings in the Top 25, a roster loaded with talent, looking at a preseason ranking potentially in the Top 5 in the country, some of the best fan support in the country, excellent facilities, etc...
*The ability to pay 2 million plus for a head coach

*ISU is located in Ames, IA

Some on here act like hiring a guy who was interviewing for jobs at Green Bay and Northern Kentucky is the best that ISU can do.

Jamie flat out didn't do his job then. His job isn't to be Fred's friend. His job is to keep a damn good coach at ISU and he flat out gave up from how it sounds.

God, I hope Pollard and TJ have more important stuff to do with their time than read CF. And if they do, I certainly hope TJ has more confidence than letting CF ruin his career.

Welcome to the big leagues.

Gregg Marshall is making more than Fred. If you want to triple Marshall's salary and give it to Fred he might forget the NBA at nearly $10M a year.
