WWJD- What Will Jamie Do?

We do but you won't get many here to admit that.

Pro's
*ISU plays in what many consider the deepest and most competitive league in the nation... the best conference.
*The Big XII has arguably the best group of coaches (with name recognition) in all of college basketball.
*ISU has the program rolling right now, a team ranked yearly in the Top 25, 4 straight NCAA Tournaments, 2 Big XII Tournament championships, the longest streak in school history of consecutive weekly rankings in the Top 25, a roster loaded with talent, looking at a preseason ranking potentially in the Top 5 in the country, some of the best fan support in the country, excellent facilities, etc...
*The ability to pay 2 million plus for a head coach

Con's
*ISU is located in Ames, IA

Some on here act like hiring a guy who was interviewing for jobs at Green Bay and Northern Kentucky is the best that ISU can do.

Sweet let's go after Ben Jacobsen.

Seems pretty obvious that TJ is probably going to get handed the job, and those in the know are doing their best to sell us on this move.

It's nothing against TJ, but his resume isn't what you'd want to replace Hoiberg. I'm sure he's a great guy and obviously a good recruiter and basketball mind, but it's hard selling me on the idea that he's ready to be the head guy here.

You know how you constantly hear about "head coaches hate recruiting", "recruiting is a grind"? TJ likes recruiting, and he's better than decent at it.

CBB = 80% recruiting, 20% coaching

He will be doing both. Trying to get as much money for Fred as he can and also searching for a replacement

Jamie flat out didn't do his job then. His job isn't to be Fred's friend. His job is to keep a damn good coach at ISU and he flat out gave up from how it sounds.

I'm not a big donor, but trying to put myself in their shoes, I would imagine being less than pleased about JP not even trying to reach out. He could at least use the extra money to make a splash on the next hire if Hoiberg leaves. Maybe a little tin-foil-hatty, but I wonder if JP consciously doesn't want to make a homerun hire.

With Hoiberg this is an NBA thing, NOT a money thing!!! The sooner some of you get that through you heads that faster you'll be able to correctly process the events that are taking place right now. Once you've caught up, please come back and join the conversation with the rest of us.

If we seriously want to be KU's rival we'd make an eyebrow rising serious hire. If we don't have the dollars to do that then we're all going to have to come to grips with the fact that Fred outkicked his coverage his whole time here and TJ is the best we can hope for.

I'll be on the TJ bandwagon but can't imagine him having the success we want. If I'm wrong PLEASE post this in my face in a couple years...

I'm still frustrated about his previous "former ISU assistant" who loves Ames and "wants to be here" that he hired to be a Head Coach on the other side of the parking lot.

Why is TJ building a brand new sweet house if he is not going to be the next Head Coach?

I know people that have made far less than over 100ka year for the last decade building sweet houses. You do realize TJ is a millionaire right? And probably has been for awhile.

Why does anyone think Honracek will leave the NBA to coach a college team?

I'm not convinced he would but it's worth a call or two.

You could increase his salary and you could offer him job stability (he is at least 50/50 on getting fired next year).

Right now he makes $2m vs Fred's $2.2, so you would have to probably get him into the $2.6-2.8 range to have a shot.

I think the worst part of this is the timing. Most other college programs who are/were looking for coaches took care of that in March/April. I'm not going to be surprised if Otz is introduced, but it certainly would not surprise me if Jamie pulls someone surprising out of the woodwork. I would have loved Mark Price...but it looks like Charlotte snatched him up.
