WILLIAMS: What's next (potential candidates)

Looks like a cheap buy may be Les Miles who may be bought out for the already collected $20M.

I really want someone who is going to bring an offense focused on a power run game. How about Mike Bloomgren, Stanford's OC? He even has some NFL ties which should help with recruiting?

You win with line play both defensive and offensive.. Ed Orgeron would get you guys that ISU could never sniff before.

You need great players to make great coaches, it normally does not work the other way around. Especially at an ISU.

Is he risky, yes you might end up in NCAA hot water, but for a school that does not go to bowl games anyway I am not sure what more the NCAA could do to ISU, that is on field performance has already taken care of.

Guy is one of the best lineman recruiters in the country and I would wager he could even overcome the negative perception of the ISU football.

If Hoke is interested you hire him. It didn't work out at Michigan, and maybe the pressure got to him. Who knows, but if he wants to come in and prove he can Coach, give him the challenge. It's not like there is a ton of similarity between Michigan and ISU's football culture.

Hoke would be near the bottom of my list.

Ok first post for me and I'm sure it has been said but I'm at work and can't read everything until tonight. But im dying to know why Greg schiano isn't being mentioned? Out of our league? Not interested ? What's the deal...

A defense first coach wont hack it in our league. Texas followed the conventional wisdom that hiring a good defensive HC would help counter the great offensive minds in our league, maybe 20 years ago it would have been a good idea but we have to keep up with the Jones. Doesn't mean we need a spread 50pts a game type of offense but in the big 12 how your offense plays can have a bigger impact than scheme or talent. We need an offense first coach, one who preaches the run game and ball control.

Miles is the best choice. Can you see him losing to KSU every year?

All he has to do is win 6-7 games next year and he will have ISU looking like the same type of program he left at OSU over a decade ago. He inherits some nice pieces on O and a good dual threat QB along with a stud young RB and nice receivers. Can always coach a D up. Low risk upgrade to Rhoads. Anyone better and younger becomes a blue blood hot seat candidate if they have 1 good year and potentially get poached.

For me it would be better to catch lightning in a bottle, make ISU cool and get that "up and coming" tag and then bolt than getting some guy that gives us the best chance to go 6-6 and stay here forever.

I accept 6-6 and bowl games but I'm sure not happy with it and don't see any reason not to shoot for better.

you do realize there is no way in hell that les miles would come here, right?

Pollsrd rd would obviously reach out but it's ******* stupid for fans to even entertain the idea.

The fact that there are more openings than normal doesn't mean you can't get the candidate you want. It just means it costs you more money.

yes. But it also means that the candidates will have more choices. If Illinois offers 2 million and Iowa state offers 2.5 million, 75% of coaches would take the job they think leads to more wins. And that's Illinois.

Or not.

And again, that subjective drivel is fairly meaningless to our coaching search. This is not a **** measuring contest, it is hiring a football coach that knows how to win football games at ISU.

Ed "Cookie Monster" Orgeron. Interesting candidate for sure.
