WILLIAMS: What's next (potential candidates)

Didn't read whole thread, these things can start getting long if you don't read them right away as they develop but a question on Tony alford.

He was on dmacs squad when he was fired. Dmac had two major issues. 1) he wouldn't ship cotton down the road, 2) the bigger with alford, his line recruiting was horrendous his last 3-4 years. This would be the time that alford was here. Mac had players for the defense, but the offense was slim in several positions. Alford was on the offensive side right? Did we have an area of the US he did well in? Recruiting to ohio state is a little easier than isu. I'm not seeing the good recruits from his time at isu, so why do they say he's a great recruiter?

Position coaches don't recruit for their positions. They recruit certain regions so they can develop or take advantage of already developed relationships. They then recruit whatever players the team needs in those regions, all position included.

I knew it wasn't just their position, but what area did he have. Our recruiting during 2202-2004 area was awful.

2002 - Ranked 30th
2003 - Ranked 46th
2004 - Ranked 48th

That has to be on of the best 3 year stretches in ISU history.

It took me awhile, but I checked out message boards from some of the schools that would likely have coaches considered for an open ISU posiiton. Not all are very active, not all are talking about a coaching change. But for the ones that are:

1. They have little appreciation for ISU or Ames in particular, which we might expect.
2. Most believe Coach X would rather stay another year at their favorite school Y to become a big fish and get a good job in the ACC, B1G, or SEC as a result.
3. Money and facilities won't tip the scale for their guy. He has small kids in school!
4. Most are resigned to the fact that their lot in life is always starting over just when things start looking up.
