What about Rhule at Temple? I haven't scoured through all the threads the past day so maybe he's been discussed.
Average is an over statement. They got worse every year he was there. He can recruit very well but that's about it. He's the Steve Lavin of football...or Ron Zook, if you will.
He coached Gronk and Hernandez with the Pats during Gronk's rookie year and led them to a sensational year. The Oline at Iowa that he's coaching now is VERY good and they are starting two first year tackles that have been injured for half the season. The guy can flat out coach.
Your argument would be valid if it weren't for the fact that Hoke got worse every year at Michigan and had by far his best success with all of the players he inherited.
If the rumors of Scott Frost being interested are true that's the most intriguing option at this point I think. It will be interesting for sure!
I also really believe that Leath will be involved in the hiring again, which makes me feel better. I know that opinion isn't always popular but I feel Prohm > Otz, and I think Leath had a large part in that decision.

Why do people consider this (or Kendall Briles) a serious option? No, Kirk Ferentz's son isn't going to come be head coach at a rival in-state school to the one his dad coaches. Also, Kendall Briles isn't going to coach at a school in the same conference as his father.
Some common sense would be nice.
I think Kendal Briles absolutely would coach in the same conference as his father. I'm just not sure it would be Iowa St, but if Oklahoma St or TCU were to come calling, that would be different.

Agreed. Iowa may not have the highest rated talent out there, but it will fill about a quarter of ISU's roster each year. You do need credibility with the coaches here for the long term health of ISU football.

Doug Marrone; Successful at Syracuse, quit the Bills job. Currently O-Line coach at Jacksonville
Bronco Mendenhall; 0% chance but his contract is up after next season, BYU would be stupid not to extend him. If they don't in the next few weeks he should be looking to leave.

Haven't read all the posts but I like your idea of the new coach adding a Wilson or Swenson to the staff for local and Iowa recruiting. Earl Bruce brought in Jim Williams from Dowling and he turned out to be one of the best assistant coaches we've ever had imo. I don't know what Tom Wilson does, but he wins like Jim Williams did, maybe better.

Long thread, but I haven't seen the Northern Illinois staff brought up. Talk about a consistent record! And DC Jay Niemann is an ISU grad.
