WILLIAMS: What's next (potential candidates)

Scott Frost, Dino Babers, and Toledo coach are on my short list, but my short list doesn't matter, so.....

Hello no. #6 rated recruiting classes and couldn't win in the Big 10. No way

You do realize it takes time for most recruits to mature into the players they become. He inherited a team of players that didn't fit his style at all. His first two years were with Rich Rod players only for the most part.

Re: WILLIAMS: What's next

In the article, Chris mentioned:

"A rogue idea that I think is a good one: Get a Tom Wilson (Dowling Catholic) or Gary Swenson (Valley) on the next staff. Get somebody on the next staff whose connections to the Iowa high school ranks are second to none."

This is actually not a rogue idea at all. It has been proven to work. Earle Bruce hired longtime Dowling HC Jim Williams as the offensive line coach. Jim stayed on when Donnie Duncan was hired, and also continued with Jim Criner. Here is a retrospective on that chapter of Cyclone history:

Rich Rod's 2009 class was ranked 8th and 2010 was 20th https://rivals.yahoo.com/michigan/football/recruiting/teamrank/2009/all/all

There was no shortage of talent for Hoke. And I don't believe in the "they weren't his type of players." Good coaches coach the talent they have.

Charlie Strong will be looking for a job after this season. Wouldn't mind him at ISU where he pressure would be basically nil compared to Texas

Those saying Brohm...he will be sought after by better programs than ISU...start thinking about candidates that we have a shot at. I think Brohm, Fleck and Frost will get better offers for sure.

I disagree. I consider Herman and Fuente the top "gets" of the coaching carousel this offseason. I think Brohm, Fleck and Frost are in ISU's realm of possibility.

Then you have no real idea about sports. Rich Rod was a complete 180 from Hokes style. They had small, fast players on offense, the line was built for pass blocking and being quick to pull...Hoke is about big boys that like to hit the guy in front of them, backs that can move the line for a couple yards. Hoke and Harbaugh like the same kind of guys...amazing what Harbaugh has done with Hokes recruits plus a couple of his own.

I'm not saying Hoke is Harbaugh, but his recruits are thriving in the type of scheme Hoke would've run at Michigan given a couple more years.

If Strong isn't back at Texas next year, he will be in Miami.... nearly guaranteed. He's a Florida guy and likes it down there. And Miami wants him too if he's interested.

Ask any good coach, talent is talent. No doubt they were different styles, but it should not matter. Urban Meyer didn't seem to have a problem with inherited recruits.
Jim McElwain did pretty good this year with Muschamp's different style recruits.

Do you think Hoke would have Michigan anywhere close to what they are this year?

I guess it's just the style of coach I want, someone that is truely innovative. A coach that can scheme, and coach up the players he's given, achieve moderate success, then bring in his types, and have even more success.

Look up Todd Monken at Southern Miss, ties to the Big 12 and did a nice job getting them turned around in 3 years.

Agree. Brohm I really like. He has turned around a Western Ky team that was horrid. Guy can coach and makes QBs studs. Yes please. Brohm is a rising star IMO.

Willie Taggart turned WKU around, not Brohm. The three years before Brohm they were 7-5, 7-5, and 8-4.

Taggart then Petrino and then Brohm. Good young coach but he is working with a first round NFL QB in Conference USA.

So just some predictions based off http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...coaching-rumors-jobs-candidates-carousel-2015

Open jobs and who is rumored to get it. Just some guesses on my part
USC - Chip Kelly
Miami - Mario Cristobal (OL line coach at Alabama) or Butch Davis
Virginia Tech - Larry Fedora, UNC Head Coach
South Carolina - Tom Herman
Missouri - Justin Fuente
Illinois - PJ Fleck
Maryland - Dino Babers

If that happens, it opens up
North Carolina - Chizik?
Houston - Kendal Briles

Even if 5 other jobs open up, there is still plenty of good, young, talented coaches out there who want to get paid.
