Its funny that CW mentioned Brian Ferentz because I had a Hawk fan tell me that Brian will replace Kirk as Football Coach............

Whatever we do, I vote for the culture change. Time to start maximizing results in those areas that can be controlled (football IQ, attention to detail, hiring of assistants, hard work) and stop obsessing about things that can't be controlled (bad history, geographic location, etc). Unless there's a very good reason for it, I would prefer not to see two asst. coaches sons on the next staff. Not saying that Shane and Tommy didn't do a great job, but it is important to maximize performance in every assistant postion we have.
I really wanted CPR to be successful but I think his main weakness was the x's and o's of being a head coach. Getting someone who already has this experience should be number one priority IMO. Some interesting mid level HCs out there. Would we pony up for some of them?
I think we would pony up for one of them. I think the real question is would they want the job.

I think not. Iowa State is a great job. Great fans. Great facilities. It's easy to be successful in the Big 12. There are a lot of 5 star recruits in Iowa.
I suspect Mullen is calling JP now. But JP is probably talking to Tony Alford.
I am sure that no one has tried to "obsess" about such things. They are real issues that come up in the process of recruiting that no change in "culture" is going to make magically disappear. If you cannot counter them in the recruiting process, you will lose in the process. Pretending they do not exist will yield failure.
I agree on focusing on the things you have control over, however.
