not even close. I'm not upset that Rhoads is gone. I'm realistic about who we are going to get to replace him.
The good thing about this is that I've learned that many of you really, truly think that Iowa State is an elite football job. That's good.
Is that Dan Mullen's brother?
And yes, Mullen is WAY out of reach. He currently makes $4 million per year at Miss St.
I think most of us know Iowa state isn't a tier one job ,but it is a P5 job with good money.
take Dino babers, he is making 400K, I think he wouldn't mind 1.5mil. I think you are just delusional thinking that everyone thinks we want Nick Saban. All we want is a coach that will take us to bowl games and win them, I'm not looking to be going to the playoffs every 3 years. I would love that but baby steps.
So are we the first school to throw money after Babers? That's the thing, I have a hard time believing that we are the first ones to go after these guys. At the very least, this year teams like Maryland and Illinois will be going after the same guys as we do. And their money is just as good as ours.
We need someone who can recruit!! And Iowa does not have a large number of 5* star recruits as a previous message suggested. Maybe a couple, but certainly not a lot. We need a coach that is not afraid to run up the score, as many other teams in the Big 12 and other conferences do. We cannot get the lead and then back off and play not to lose. This is being political correct, this is football not politics. We don't care if the other team's feeling are hurt. We must play to win every minute of the game.
Here's a question I've been mulling over. What is the timing of the payments for all the AD improvements? Now that we are on the backend of the big improvements for now, I would think that would clear up some budget space to pay a coach generously.
I remember JP mentioning the low cost of borrowing money as a reason for doing a number of capital improvements now, so I imagine they are built into the budget and financed over years or decades.
There is smoke on this, but it's very early so hard to tell who's pushing the rumors.

I think they are over 20 years. So nothing JP has done is close to being paid for. What I don't know is how much money they have set aside to make the payment. The way JP is with money he probably has a lot of it sitting in the bank.
