It should be noted that city smack is incredibly lame. Unless you are living in some sort of paradise then anyone from a different part of the country is going to be able to call out things about a particular town and make fun of them. For example people make fun of the city I live in - Houston - for being a concrete jungle/swamp/110 degrees + humidity/Mexico/blah blah blah. Despite it being a booming economy of 6 million+.
Lubbock is not a bad town. Its not for everybody, but obviously 230k people seem to like it well enough. The 100 degree summers aren't so bad when you realize that theres no humidity to speak of, making it 80 degrees in the shade and 70 degrees at night, plus the standard 15-20 mph breeze that is almost always going. Lubbocks weather (outside of the occasional spring time dust storm) is actually quite fantastic, but I wouldn't expect you guys to know about that unless you were actually there for longer than a day. I would live in a location with that kind of weather in a heartbeat.
I would have stayed in West Texas if I was able to make the kind of money that I am able to make in the big city. Its too bad that all the best jobs are migrating to the metroplexes.
I will knock on Lubbock for this: The roads, while organized great and traffic is not a problem, suck completely except for the highway. If you have a car low to the ground like I do, it will get destroyed. I don't ever see anyone but Red Raiders comment about this though, lending credence to the idea that most forum posters actually havent been to Lubbock and just make fun of it based on heresay.
Anyway, back on topic:
Tech fans are confident going into Iowa because we are always confident at this point in the season. We are undefeated and our team is looking good. We know we have played nobodies, but for those of us who follow the program closely (attend practices, break down film as a hobby, etc) we can see that this team is way ahead of last year's team at this time. We feel good about our chances because we are fielding our best players while we didn't last year. Things like that. I agree that some predictions on Raiderpower have changed lately to some blowout numbers, and I find that a little odd myself, but I still understand that our fans are just confident.
Its the same thing you see here. Lots of ISU posters are confident that they will crush TTU. Should they be? I don't know. But I know that going by the idea "we crushed them last year" is not good because teams deliver eachother beat downs from year to year all the time.
Wow, ended up writing more than I expected. Time to watch the Baylor/WVU game!
Seems kind of counterintuitive to be browsing a message board of written text and not read, doesn't it?
Lubbock and DSM have nothing in common. Lubbock is a hole with a metro pop of under 300k. DSM is more diverse and has a metro pop of 600k. Lubbock is ugly, and smells bad and is in the middle of nowhere. If TT was not there Lubbock would be Odessa.....and that is not good at all.Okay? So living in a big city means its better? I guess we should all move to Detroit by that logic
