I thought the only reason Cloned ever knew anything is because he used to drink with Eustachy at Wallaby's.
Could be. I just know that guy was message board legend for a while. Kind of lost that when he swore Hoiberg wasn't leaving for the Bulls.

I just remember him from back in the Eustachy days. He always had inside info on the bb team and recruiting but I think somebody said he was getting it from Larry himself.

For what it’s worth, on another forum with older, connected posters, I’m hearing…

BIG12 dead, Bowlsby to retire, ISU to the BIG10.

Says his source is as close as you can get to Bowlsby.
When your job is eliminated, do you call it retiring?

Last round of realignment was all about cable tv footprint. It was all about how many potential viewers were in the markets to increase potential eyeballs for the TV contracts. In this world we bring the same cable footprints as Iowa and so no additional revenue. Where as Rutgers brought the Big10 all of New York.

The future is going to be about specific fanbases seeking out and paying directly for the content of their teams. In this new world, with a passionate fanbase willing to spend money on their fandom we bring quite a bit more than Rutgers.

Right now we are between these things with streaming services and and various non-cable options. Plus cable with a diminishing customer base.

Whether the Big10 is interested really depends how they are looking at things. If they are still thinking the old way we don't get considered. If they are more forward looking maybe we do.
The whole thing is about 'return' on the advertising dollar and the ability to 'sway' fandom. The new paradigm for advertising, basically, eliminates 'broadcast' advertising or, at the very least, severely limits its comparative effectiveness. The sway of fandom, I'd argue is more towards a more viable conference than towards a specific team (see SEC as perfect example. How many people can readily identify ALL teams?). Forward thinkers see this. Backward thinkers don't. But, as many posters have pointed out, the SEC, by itself, won't garner 'lasting' viewership. They need a MUCH larger audience.

Nebraska is one of the winningest programs in the history of college football. Historically top 10. There isn't one program that stays at the very top forever. Not even Alabama. They disappeared for almost a decade. Not saying Nebraska is going to get back to dominating anytime soon but they'll always have a certain amount of clout whether anyone likes it or not.
Until enough generations die off with no relevance during. Northwestern was the undisputed #1 team until a team came in there and blew them away like a Cyclone. We (all of us) are merely a brief snapshot in history.

Yes. Thank you. Nebraska had a top 10 football program like 20 years ago and that was enough to get them into the big 10. Not saying we go there, but of the remaining big XII we are certainly near the top.
You think our mild to good success the past couple years equates to what Nebraska was doing back in the day?
