For a long time I've thought that Iowa State was one of the big dogs in women's basketball even though we hadn't made it to the Final Four. I thought this was especially true for midwestern players. If I was only dreaming, hopefully it was a premonition.
We are the most consistent good team in the Big12. We are in WBB what Tech is in Football. Rarely able to win the conference crown, but always good enough to make the elite programs sweat.

I agree. We are one of the bigs in WBB. I'm concerned that even some fans haven't embraced that. We have a legitimate claim to perennialtop twenty status - staff, attendance, facilities, campus, community, conference, tradition, wins. We ought to contend for the sweet sixteen and be able to recruit 2-3 out of the top 100 prospects each year.
Hallie is extremely mobile for a big girl. She runs the floor very well and is very quick to get position on both ends of the floor. I was very impressed with her the 2 times I saw her play this year. ISU had a couple assistants in crowd at one of the games and Bluder was there too. Pretty sure there were some other coaches there watching as well, but wasn't sure what schools.
It would really shock me of we didn't get her! I don't think Iowa really stands a chance? I hear if Kiah Stoakes of Linn Mar doesn't go out to a big school out of state she'll pry go to Iowa! I heard Maryland offered her
Let's make sure we get athletes that can withstand BF verbal lashings and intense coaching style. 
The Cyclone WBB is my favorite team to follow and I think they are great, however, let's not kid ourselves -they are not big dog status - Stanford, TN, UCONN, Baylor, OU, Duke, Rutgers.
If my memory serves correctly, I believe 2 or 3 of those teams are actively recruiting Greenfield hense my original statement.
ISU, KSU, and MN are probably the biggest dogs of the midwest.
Agree - we're probably third in status in the Big 12 behind Baylor and OU, and alongside A/M, K-State and Texas.
We have a pretty good Ballard pipeline going right now with Lacey and Zimmerman - frankly I look for Greenfield to commit to us this summer or fall. She loves the players and the program - and the crowd.
Technically, we do not have a losing record to anyone in the Big 12 except Baylor. Keep in mind that OU is relatively new to the stage. 8 years ago, ISU was one of the elite programs and OU a nobody.
On the subject of recruiting women players in general, why have we not gone back to the West Coast recently, or have we tried and had no luck? I am thinking of where two of our best point guards, the Lyndseys, Medders and Nelson, came from. Same question about the New Jersey-New York area; Conn. and Rutgers cannot take all the talent there, and Iowa's success football recruiting in New Jersey--there last two tailbacks came from the Garden State and you can go all the way back to Andre Tippett to cite another example--demonstrate that at least some East Coast kids are willing to come out here.

in my opinion, the "image" of Ames and ISU also play a role in the problem attracting talents from outside of the midwest. Ames frequently is described as "in the middle of nowhere" with "terrible winter / weather".
I think we need to change the attitude and the image, gradually because Ames is a great place to go to school. The 2 years I spent in Ames when getting my masters were really fun. Yes, the winter was cold but it's a blessing to be able to enjoy 4-season weather.
Yes, Ames is small, but it's full of hospitality. Crime rates are low and it's still fun for students.

And a major rail line right next to the campus. I am anxious to make the trip possibly this summer, for sure to catch a game later in the year.
Get serious with this. We are perennially in the top 5 in attendance for WBB and are a fixture in the NCAA tourney. That's the definition of big dog. Ask UConn, Duke, Tennessee, if ISU is a big dog in women's basketball.
