USC Coaching Search - Riley

It's hilarious that people think Riley choosing an easier path to a playoff is some sort of sign of weakness when that's standard fodder for speculation in every coaching job, and part of our pitch to Matt Campbell is that a reconstituted Big 12 and expanded playoff gives him an easier path to do it here.

Notre Dame’s path just got significantly more difficult as well with the Riley hire. But go look at their schedule for the next two years. They weren’t going to the playoff with or without Kelly. Absolutely murderous.

Mostly just OU fans.

A real easy decision. USC is the easier, better job.

Kelly will have to deal with those LSU faithful now. Different kind of folks. And if you ain't from round there son, you better be explaining yo self, constantly.

ND never joining a league has put them in no man's land in modern football. Still a great job of course.

That didn't take long:

He better land the top recruiting class for years to come after what they bought out on Norman, bought in LA, and are paying him. And win 99% of your games and several national titles. No pressure.

Wait until Dabo leaves Clemson to replace Saban and the Bama train continues to chug along...
The Bama train has been chugging along since Bear Bryant left Texas A & M and went back to his alma mater at Alabama...As they say in the south..."This Bama Train Ain't Never Stopping!"

If your a young guy making $10M a year- would you rather live in Norman, OK or SoCal? Even an old guy like me would take SoCal. Find a nice place in the ocean.

Jobs aren't much different. USC is Big Fish in small pond (Pac12). OU is Big Fish in big pond (SEC).

If he can lock down the state for recruiting, he'll have a good shot at doing just that. Well, maybe not the national titles, but he'd definitely be competing for playoff spots. Tons of talent right in his back yard. For example, there are 27 4 and 5 star recruits in California in the 2022 class and 23 in the 2023 class.

Fry was already in his 50s or close when he got to Iowa. And the big fish/small pond thing fit him perfectly...all he had to do was get Iowa to be decent and he's a legend.

Also I'm not sure if coaching was such a merry go round then but might just be perception.
Believe ME..."the merry go round" wasn't even a shadow of what it is right now, with these coaches Leaving for Greener, I mean Green Like More $$.$$ PASTURES!!

Is this official 'coaching hire' thread now that the other one disappeared?
This one?
