USC Coaching Search - Riley

6 million for a house, I am thinking Manhattan Beach, Marina Del Rey, Brentwood or Bel Aire.
Actually not a huge place 5,000-6000 square feet tops.
Oh man, slumming it.

Joking aside, if a $6 million house allotment is part of his compensation, that's pretty massive. $6mil will buy you a hell of a lot of house regardless of what part of the country you're in. Not to mention even if he gets fired in 3 years, that's a big asset to be able to liquidate. $6million is more than a lot of coach's buyouts.

Why is it whenever Iowa State gets a good coach the media goes after him as if he wants to leave and shouldn't be at ISU. But if Iowa has a good coach, i.e., Fry or Ferentz, you never hear anything about them leaving.
Ferentz has been there long enough now the conversation doesn't come up. Do you not remember the Ferentz to the NFL for 3-4 years straight? Matt stays long enough that conversation will end as well.

I live in eastern Iowa and the Ferentz to the NFL chatter was very loud early in his career at Iowa and that was before social media. Eventually it fuzzled but the buzz around Ferentz was there for a few years.

ya it was heavy, and cmc is going about it the same way, then ferentz had some rough years after 09 and lost his luster

why would someone need 2 homes in Norman?
One is an orgy house?

Fry was already in his 50s or close when he got to Iowa. And the big fish/small pond thing fit him perfectly...all he had to do was get Iowa to be decent and he's a legend.

Also I'm not sure if coaching was such a merry go round then but might just be perception.

College endowments and athletics need to be taxed just for the excesses of both.
You can do that but most show a loss since the school pumps money into them. Or they are like us and make small gains. Tax them and the discrepancy will just widen.

Our firm is a multi-family office. We know the tax game and the scam that is academia. My best friend is a manager of a very large endowment in academia. He makes 15mm/year. The money is insane. They are gaming the system legally. The legality needs to change.

If they change that, it would have major ripple effects on smaller organizations also. Sounds like the ADs are not the issue if a manager makes 15 MM. my sister oversees an 8B Foundation and isn’t close to that. Kinda makes the coaching salaries seem less of an issue.

OU Leadership talking about Riley's departure:
All three spoke of their disappointment in Riley's decision, but indicated there was nothing he said that led them to believe he was leaving because of any dissatisfaction at Oklahoma or with the impending move to the SEC.

"He made a personal decision," Harroz said. "Were we disappointed? Absolutely. And that disappointment lasts until you realize you've now got to move forward. I mean, we'd like more notice."

Totally agree. There has been legislation that is targeted to the unreasonable athletic situation. I am only in tongue and cheek as there are many reasonable academic endeavors.

Didn't they go to the SEC without telling him?

Not much notice there.
