USC Coaching Search - Riley

Wow, things are so out of whack. And folks are upset that the players can now earn a few thousand dollars on the side through the NIL rule.
This.

Think of all of the hand wringing about transfer rules and NIL rights, "ruining the game," but a coach can be as cutthroat and mercenary as they want and it's just part of the game.

I agree on the unfairness of that disparity. But I think what (most) people want isn't the players getting hosed, it's players not getting poached for $20k (or $200k) and going to the next school up. They don't want unfettered free agency where 10 schools buy up all the good players and everyone else is Division 1AA. A world where Texas buys up Breece, Charlie, Brock and anyone and everyone else from a smaller school that has a good year. It would literally turn every school outside of about 15-20 of them into minor league talent development.

There needs to be some sort of restriction somehow. IDK what, but something to prevent that level of non-parity. It's a whole 'nother thread of course.

You're right, it is a whole other thread, and I don't want to go down that road here. I guess my response is if there are restrictions on player movement and compensation, restrictions ought to apply to coaches as well.

College endowments and athletics need to be taxed just for the excesses of both.

Riley pulls out a Donnie Duncan reference in the press conference.

Also these USC people are slick.

6 million for a house, I am thinking Manhattan Beach, Marina Del Rey, Brentwood or Bel Aire.
Actually not a huge place 5,000-6000 square feet tops.

Why is it whenever Iowa State gets a good coach the media goes after him as if he wants to leave and shouldn't be at ISU. But if Iowa has a good coach, i.e., Fry or Ferentz, you never hear anything about them leaving.

I live in eastern Iowa and the Ferentz to the NFL chatter was very loud early in his career at Iowa and that was before social media. Eventually it fuzzled but the buzz around Ferentz was there for a few years.
