UNI's Superbowl??

You guys think youll make it to a bowl this year? Tough schedule for sure. Im a UNI fan first, but I root for Drake, ISU and yes, even Iowa when were not playing you. Good luck, I hope you go 12-1.

Sad to say, but if ISU is bad enough to lose to UNI this year, they're probably going to be a lot closer to 1-11 than 12-1. In fact, if they lose to UNI, I'm going to bet on 0-12. Luckily, I don't see that as probable.

As for why we're not playing UNI again until at least 2014, hey, I'm just speculating. But if this was such a great game for everyone with only positives, I guarantee we'd still be playing them. It's not like Pollard can't see exactly how much money every game brought in. BTW, you seem pretty defensive about this whole thing. All I'm doing is stating my opinion...no need to get upset!

Guess what? Youre playing us in 2010 and 2011! Its true, look it up.

UNI student - ISU fan here...I hate Hawkeyes so I must say people here at UNI are not wannabe hawk fans they just choose to be fans of either ISU or iowa in football cuz UNI doesn't play in D-1 like in basketball. I would say iowa or ISU would be both be "UNI's superbowl" but idk even know about that...cuz some ppl used to say iowa was "ISU's superbowl" but we all know that's bs.

UNI Student- UNI fan here. We are DI. Root for your own school, or at least be knowledgeable about it. Sorry but this is one of my pet peeves.

Some people are really coming off as jerks.

Patherjoe, welcome to the site. Its great to have fans from other teams on the site that can intelligently discuss their team. We even have a few huskers here.

I started reading some of what everyone had to say and felt like I should write something too.

ISU/UNI matchup is good for the state just as much ISU/EIU.

ISU/UNI matchup is more of an opportunity for UNI than for ISU just like ISU/UI matchup can hurt UI when ISU is dead last in big 12.

If UNI is calling this their superbowl, it may be good for ISU, but its not always the case. We want to be a superbowl for EIU, not for UNI.

We could be like iowa and just play all complete cupcakes, but I like getting to play both iowa and uni in the same year, its good for both sides, cuz UNI will win it prolly once every 10-15 years and they'll get some pride from it, but mostly ISU will get an out of conference win and from a team that's not great, but a decent tune-up...And you know Chizik will not take them lightly like Mac did with smaller schools in the past. It's fun to see all my uni and isu fans both tailgating up at Jack Trice (cuz the tailgating here at UNI sucks) and it's great to get together and just DISS the hawks!!! lol

We are VERY excited about this season. Were being ranked in the Top 5-10 in almost every preseason poll, we have a very large chunk of both our offense and defense back from a team that we very good but very inconsistant last year and was snubbed from the playoffs by the committee. Most of our o-line and almost all of our skill position players are back, including QB Eric Sanders who was also the QB for our run to the national title game two years ago.

Good luck to you and here's at least one ISU fans who always roots for UNI. Your exciting run thru the 1AA playoffs two years ago and the wide-open / take chances game plan you executed against Furman, etc. left me longing for a head coach with similar style. A couple of admissions to make here:

1) The ISU/UNI game last year is the only home game I've missed in the last five years; had a family wedding to attend. I was so disenchanted after our first two games that I was looking for McCarney to be canned; I was hoping Wingert would make that FG and move up his departure (listening by radio)!

2) Brian Kelly of Central Michigan was my coach of choice because I'd like to see offense as exciting as what UNI runs! I'm still not as excited as most regarding GC's hiring, but I've renewed my five season tickets and upgraded my NCC support in a show of support for what Pollard's attempting!

Go Panthers! I hope you bring home a National Title this year!

Final Comment: Somebody commented that they'd like to see UNI at the same level as Drake (non-scholarship). Anybody remember the year Drake announced they were dropping their scholarship football program? They promptly went out and beat ISU! :sad9cd:

In one sentence you called ISU a cupcake and put UNI and Iowa as powerhouses.

Chizik, to me, is here to bring more W's to the table and someday get us the big 12 title and maybe some BCS bowl appearance - once he gets there, he will go to some bigger school. Mac was just the opposite, he didn't give a damn about any BCS bowl appearance, maybe winning the big 12 North title or should I say "sharing", Mac lives in the old days where you don't leave your job until you retire. Remember guys, we made him leave, Chizik won't be as stupid as Mac to take them likely. So I agree with you 100%

I think were improved this year and so that bodes well for us, however we wont have the suprise factor we did last year. I think we missed our chance to get you last year and this year you wont let us get out to that big lead we got last year. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Its a fun game for us (the fans) and the players. There's really nothing to lose on our end so we dont get too dissappointed after a loss, and there's potential for some major celebrating if we win. That being said- As cool as it would be to beat Iowa State Id much rather win in the playoffs.

Cool, glad to hear it. I think people in the state have always held this attitude about UNI, but recently its been dying because weve been winning basketball games, which is a good sign for our program. Good luck to you next year as well I hope Chizik brings good things.

I keep hearing about how Mac never took UNI seriously in football but correct me if I'm wrong he never lost to UNI which is more than can be said about previous coaches. He had some like 40-0, 23-0, and other lopsided wins agains UNI. In the mid 80's to mid 90's ISU had several close games and loses to UNI and Drake.
1984 ISU-21 Drake-17
1985 Drake-20 ISU-17
1987 ISU-39 UNI-38
1988 ISU-20 UNI-17
1992 UNI-27 ISU-10
1994 UNI-28 ISU-14

SIU, theyre our Iowa. Second would be Youngstown in football and Creighton in basketball. NDSU and SDSU will probably be rivals in football soon since theyre joining the Gateway next year.

The Program has come a long way since losing to Drake 22 years ago. I still remember those losses to UNI in the early 90's - Jim Walden had a tough time beating Terry Allen. If it makes anyone feel better those UNI teams had studs like Bryce Popp and Kurt Warner to name a few. While ISU had such greats as Bob Utter:baffled5wh:
