UNI's Superbowl??

PantherJoe, from your earlier posts I'm assuming you think UNI will be better than they were last year. What do you think will be there strengths/weeknesses? I was thinking they lost some key players last year. I'm assuming the running game will still be key for them with their line and backs. How do you think the passing game and defense will be?

I keep hearing about how Mac never took UNI seriously in football but correct me if I'm wrong he never lost to UNI which is more than can be said about previous coaches.

The term is singular... coach.. that would be Walden. He is the only one to hold that shame.

The Program has come a long way since losing to Drake 22 years ago. I still remember those losses to UNI in the early 90's - Jim Walden had a tough time beating Terry Allen. If it makes anyone feel better those UNI teams had studs like Bryce Popp and Kurt Warner to name a few. While ISU had such greats as Bob Utter:baffled5wh:

No, it has not come a long way. We are just as bad as we were when we lost to Drake. I have been reading this all summer about how there was no success at ISU between 1980 and the day Chizik took over :wink0st:

That same '92 team beat #7 Nebraska 19-10... go figure.. One of the worst losses ever coupled with one of the greatest victories...

ahhh the triple option, I sure don't miss it... its too windy at JT to throw the ball......

Actually, after a quick Google, Bryce Paup played 1986-1989 and Kurt Warner only started in 1993. Neither were playing in the 1992 and 1994 losses.

Sorry all of that hope got in my eyes over the years, especially since we didn't start fielding a team until '95.:rolleyes5cz:

In terms of the teams that beat us. I think that people forget that second team would have won the 1AA title had Kenny Shedd not gotten hurt in the quarterfinals.

That being said, there is no way that Iowa State should have lost to either of those teams. Walden needed to go, there was never going to be a happy ending here for him.

But look at it this way Brian, he did set the table for the run of continued excellence that was the Dan McCarney era:biggrin9gp:.

Help help! I'm drowning in sarcasm! :eek4wd:

No, it was jusr a shout out to Brian, he's the one that tipped me to the fact that we never had hope in football before Coach Mac.

But yes, the point that I was trying to make was that many of the player on that UNI team played professionally, a few in the NFL, many in Canada.

Also, that there needed to be a change made in the direction on the program. I think that the second loss really spiraled that team to the 0-10-1 season, it started there. Jim Walden was definitely no longer the man to lead the program, and hadn't been for a couple years prior to that. You can only tilt at windmills for so long before they fall on you.

And remember, this last year, we weren't far from going winless as well, so as Brian said, we may be just as bad as we were in 94. I hope that people are as patient with Gene as he cleans up the mess that was left for him, as they were with Dan. I don't get the sense, though, that Gene is too worried about the mess that Iowa State football, he's only thinking about going forward.

Seems like we have played this game already. Weren't they the Purple Panthers? Eric Sanders their veteran qb will be back a third time. He must be as old as Oden.

Will UNI beat ISU this year?....no.
Will they prolly try harder to win than against any other team? yes, except for against the Iowa Chokeyes.
