Tyrese Hunter, culture guy

The more I think about it the more I think it has more to do with either he didn't like the way he was coached or how they ran the team. The coaches who recruited him were gone. He didn't have a lot of time to look elsewhere after that happened. It's obvious Otz coaching style is completely different from Prohms. If Hunter was really wanting to play more off the ball and not be the top guy running the game and he wanted to be here he could have talked with TJ and said so. They could have got someone to transfer in and allow that to happen. By all accounts Coach Otz is as up front and straight forward as they come. Hunter is talented enough and disciplined enough to make that happen. I believe either he just didn't like it here and didn't want to be here, or the coaches didn't feel like fighting to keep him here for some reason. If he didn't come back to campus after the tournament then transferring was probably already planned. The coaches and Hunter already knew this. The young man should be applauded. He made a commitment to ISU. He followed through with that and never gave less than 100% knowing he was going to leave at the end of the season. Props to the coaches and him for keeping these plans to themselves and not creating any distractions.

I say all that just to say screw him for picking Texa$$.

I believe there was a poster here who knew Tyrese who said this. Can't remember who posted it, but multiple times the guy said that Tyrese simply didn't like it here (for whatever reason) and had planned on transferring after the season no matter what.

Haliburton talked him into sticking with his commitment to Iowa State in the first place.

The butt hurt about Tyrese leaving is hilarious, as if nobody switches JOBS FOR BETTER PAY. Do I wish he’s still here absolutely he’s damn good, but can’t blame him especially if he’s putting some money in his pocket and if Iowa state couldn’t provide that then it’s Iowa state’s problem just like if a company can’t retain you cause another company offers better pay/benefits.
Once again the Presidents and ADs at mid tier institutions like ISU blew this. If they would have had the foresight to campaign for a “liveable wage” program, we could have completed. We cannot compete in NIL.

He committed to Prohm. There's not enough people who actually gave him credit for still coming to ISU.
Players more often than not commit to a coach, not a school.

Interesting...He would have had the same situation at Texas is he had gone there first. Beard would have had to talk him into "honoring" his commitment to Shaka. Maybe he would have transferred to the good guys after one year.

Almost every coach in the Country would love to have Tyrese. He committed to Prohm, stayed here anyway, played hard, didn't get into trouble, and transferred without throwing ISU under the bus. Every single one of us knows ISU can't compete financially with Texas.
It seems like the worst thing he has done is say it wasn't about money (probably the most important part) /and that he went to Texas.

I'm just not going to crucify a kid, like some are. I know I wasn't perfect at 18.

I don’t blame him for leaving at all. Austin would be an awesome place to go to college.

But he has to know that the way he left was not cool and ISU fans will not treat him kindly when he returns.

There is probably no easy way out for a player of his caliber. I look at his situation similar to when Harrison Barnes committed to UNC. They both will probably regret how it all went down when they're adults. (Harrison is an adult now and has been VERY charitable to Ames and would maybe take a mulligan on that one)

Had to be photoshopped. Everyone tells me he never even returned to campus after the Sweet 16!
Please, Ayagi, clear this up! ;)

I hope Tyrese has a great career at Texas and the pros. Seems like a good dude who has been through a lot in his life. The people on here who want to crucify him for switching schools need to get a ******* life. It’s pathetic.

Don't let the sweeping generalizations fool you. Texas is nice and the people are likable. San Antonio, Austin and DFW are terrific cities.

San Antonio is decent and DFW is mehhhhhhhhhhhhh. Haven't been to Austin but a friend of mine says "it's fine".

I'm sure my opinion would change, though, if I was being paid 6 digits to move there and play basketball at age 19.

All he had to do is say Austin has a culture he was more comfortable in and yes there was the NIL to look forward to. Just stop BSing us. Also a classless photo with Johnny Orr.
Why does he have to say this? Why does he owe us this? Yes he is very likely not being 100% honest, but get over it. Who cares WHY he moved on? He's gone.

I thought that was a photoshop?

When would he have been in Texas uniform to take that?
