Tyler Sash has died

Hoks really going for that extra bit of motivation in a game that they care nothing about.

So.. the decision to have #9 on the helmet has nothing to do with honoring T Sash and everything to do with motivating the team for ISU?

I'm assuming you're joking. But afraid you may be serious.

It can be both. I'm not blaming anyone if I was the coaching staff in this situation I would do the same thing.

Several of their fan sites have been pushing it as motivation, but I wouldn't attribute that as the motive of the football staff in paying tribute.

Youre kidding right. Please tell me youre kidding.

Did we not have a moment of silence before our game against #2 Okie State in 2011 to pay respects to their people who were killed in a plane crash? Considering the timing I think a moment of silence is the right thing to do. Had he died in May then probably no. The university of Iowa would have then probably done something in their season home opener considering he was a Hawk. I see no problems here.

I can understand most all of the sentiments expressed here on both sides.

One thing I wanted to come here and say, is that I find it incredibly classy of Iowa State to hold the moment of silence. Classy isn't even the right word for it.

This week has really had me examining a lot of the things I have said and written through the years surrounding this rivalry...much of that has been intentionally over the top, to stir the pot. As much as I do dislike contrivance, this week and tweaking Iowa State fans got the best of me.

I've deserved all of the grief ISU fans have thrown my way, and if some continue to throw it my way until I stop seeing it, that's in bounds, too.

Do I still want Iowa to beat Iowa State? Heck yes. But the silly rhetoric...for the sake of trolling Iowa State...just don't know that I will have it in me, especially in light of how Iowa State is paying a tribute to an Iowa Hawkeye on Saturday with their gesture, the number of Cyclones who tweeted out about Tyler Sash, Fred Hoiberg favoriting one of my articles on twitter, and so many more things both known and unknown.

I have certainly been impacted by seeing Iowa State's outpouring of support.

Well said. Thanks for the kind words.

Totally un-Sash related, but **** Iowa. Sorry couldn't resist.

Wish your followers had the same level of thoughtfulness.

I find the motivation argument to be complete horse manure. You're telling me they're going to try harder than normal because they've got a number on their helmet that most on the team didn't even know or see play?

Sash left the Hawkeyes after the 2010 season. Not sure if any of the present players really played with or knew him. Some of the present coaches like Ferentz obviously.
